>>211781333I have varied tastes, and I judge each piece of art accordingly, but it's weird to me for a person to just have no awareness of the facts. I'm not going to pretend I enjoy Hard To Be A God, for example, I would have a far easier time rewatching Benny & Joon with Depp acting like a charming weirdotard. But I'm not going to show up and say that, dunno, Revenge Of The Sith, is a great film, much as I enjoy it. But then you have adults legitimately having these conversations over 80s Pop Culture. Or the other side of the coin where some tryhard refuses to acknowledge that a fantasy movie can be well-crafted and written because he's really into silent 50s cinema, totes honest... It's as if people can't handle a spectrum of opinions and preferences.
>>211781757I think it's pretty universal. It's good for what it is. But LotRfags are obnoxious when they elevate it to some higher standard. The same can be said for 80sactionfags, or Bondfags or whoever else. There are small subsets of groups where they become completely retarded over their liking of a thing and they have to elevate it to some absurd station in order to justify liking it. The 80sfag with their insistence that all movies need a macho buff guy spouting quips to be "real movies" and their manufactured dislike of general sci-fi/fantasy/capes. The LotRfag who somehow argues that it's some uniting cultural landmark of prime importance instead of a well-developed fantasy universe. The Superfag and Batfag who try to argue that they're icons of cultural significance and so on. The other side of the coin are the people who take nothing seriously.
I just don't get it. I like Cameron Crowe's sappy films. Not ironically, I genuinely like them, they resonate with me. I like Wim Wenders and I like Nolan and Fincher and some random flick I'll come across. You don't have to shut out entire genres or be an eternal contrarian, you can enjoy varied pallets.
