As much of a shit as Maher is, he has a point about Andrew Tate and the manosphere guys. They're literally the only semblance of masculinity a young boy has to look to. Imagine you're a young man in America. You're about 16 years old, starting to look forward to manhood. Odds are you're born into a single mother home. Odds are you're an only child and don't have big brothers to look up to or little brothers to take care of and teach. You could even have sisters, big or little. 90% of your teachers from ages 5-15 were female. School administration was female. Your house life revolved around your mother and possibly sisters. Your mother coddled you because you're her only child, or maybe her only boy. Odds are your father isn't in the picture. It could be she never married him, or they got divorced somewhere along the way and your mother has primary custody because they always do. And IF your father is around, there's a good chance he's a fucking pussy that's been whipped into being an "equal" to his wife.
With all that said, you've had little to no strong male role model in your life. And one of your friends at school shows you a video of Andrew Tate. He's the first man you've encountered (even if it's not real) that's told you here's what it means to act like a man. A man is strong. A man is decisive. He speaks with confidence, whether or not it's warranted is irrelevant. He's rich. He's surrounded by fast cars and beautiful women. This is the only strong male influence you've seen since every piece of media and all of your peers bombard you with the message that men are weak and unnecessary. Maher's right that your only choice is to bow down like a faggot cuck, or be like Andrew Tate. There's no healthy middle ground anymore for so many young men that were raised around women their entire lives and had no positive, healthy role model that taught them masculinity.
