I'm watching it for the first time right now. The show looks so good. Really like the lighting and the mood that it creates.

>The X-Files has been resurrected in a time in which its ideas propelling the show’s narrative are no longer simply fun for their mystery, science fiction, and drawing from an interesting subculture. The ideas are verging on mainstream, heavily mirroring right-wing ideologies that have led to an expansion of power for right wing ideologues in a time in which inequality is at its highest, democracy is at its most fragile, and government regulation of financial institutions and polluting corporations are of the utmost importance.

SHUT IT DOWN

They’re clearly retarded but they’re not wrong about the specific fact that nothing X-Files can do these days would be fringe. In the 90s and early 2000s it was fun to think about big coverups and the idea of the government conspiring to fuck everyone over. Now everyone knows or is at least on the fence about the government being evil, they just disagree on who’s in control of it and what their objective is, and they’re also happy to drop the idea when they get power.

Even the monster and alien stuff is not too out-there anymore. The government is suddenly very upfront about UFOs and rebranded them as UAPs and is suddenly telling us about all kinds of sightings by reputable individuals. The only remaining conspiracy to unravel is why they suddenly decided to be upfront.

Is it true the quality drops off after season 5? Is there a point where it's best to stop watching? Are the movies and spinoff series worth checking out?
I'm on season 2 right now and loving it.

There’s a drop-off but I think the show is still great television until Season 8. Some people will tell you to drop it after 4-5 or even 2 or 3 which is insanity. I enjoyed the final two seasons still but a lot of the spark was gone and I can see how people would stop watching.

I want to like xfiles and watch it but theres just so many episodes some of which are pretty boring for me. I always get to season 3 and get burnt out
