At one point it was intended to be the final third of the original book. Also, Paul was a hero. Both the hero of the first book and a heroic figure overall

Mostlikely, given that there were no surviving fremen characters who were fleshed out in Part 2 apart from Stilgar, who would never (unless Denis really shits it). Korba basically doesn't exist, unless he'll briefly exist just to drive the plot, but given the ending for Part 2, it seems Chani may have a hand in the stoneburner, maybe not allying with Irulan and the rest though since she probably hates her, my theory is that she's already pregnant by the end of Part 2 also.
