Everyone says that about The Blair Witch Project. "The woods are dark." I’m like, okay, "The shaky camera is cool." They gets to go to an abandoned house and be killed by the witch. Okay? I want to do that. But they don't, like, get raped in prison. That could happen in my movie. If you want to talk about dark, that’s how that would go. I have no words.

Back then, camcorder batteries would last maybe an hour if you didn't use the onboard light. They would have had to have carried sacks of fully-charged batteries to get any amount of footage. These kids likely didn't have the money for that.

so how much of it was the blair witch's supernatural humiliation ritual and how much of it was the characters losing their minds? because mike throws the map in the creek for no reason, heather feels the irresistible urge to film and josh just leaves. were they possessed or influenced by the witch or did they genuinely just lost their minds in a few days?

I get really irritated when characters in such movies act so irrational. I get that tiredness, hunger and whatnot psychological effects will impair your judgement but come on. Try to come up with solutions using logic!

How about following the creek for a while. Surely that will get you to some human settlement. Why is this not even a suggestion? I want characters who can logically, even scientifically analyze the situation they are in. Very little of this was in the Cube but what else?

If I was one of the characters I would try to bend the mechanics in the same situation (of course if I could keep my composure), start a fire for example, burn down the forest.

I played the blair witch video game I am well /v/ersed in the blair witch lore. I was there in that forest and I can confirm the place chances under your feet to make you walk in circles, it happend to me. Then a giant scorpion made out of twigs appeared as the forest final boss but I blasted it with my shotgun.

7/10 I'd probably play the remaster.

In hindsight sure but it was everyone's first time doing anything so they'd never imagine it would have even been released let alone be huge. Plus it was originally supposed to be a fake documentary with supplementary found footage scattered throughout, not the whole movie. You'd think the directors would throw them some dough out of goodwill at least but nope they were cunts about it

This is a good idea and on thinking about it, I didn't notice much natural wildlife noise in the film. But when you play the whole thing and pay attention to that element, there are audible wildlife noises. They DID film it on location so some is inevitable. It's more noticeable during the day, but yes at night it drops off to near-nothing apart from the doctored spoopy human stuff.

(((Hollywood accounting))) would still have fucked them over. Did you know not even huge movies like the Harry Potters and Star Wars can make any profits? So sad.
>According to Lucasfilm, “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” has never made a profit despite the film earning $475 million at the box office against a budget of $32.5 million.
>David Prowse, the actor who played Darth Vader throughout the original trilogy, revealed he’s never received any residual payments on “ROTJ” because it failed — and continues to fail — to make any net profit.
>“I get these occasional letters from Lucasfilm saying that we regret to inform you that as Return of the Jedi has never gone into profit, we’ve got nothing to send you. Now here we’re talking about one of the biggest releases of all time,” said Prowse. “I don’t want to look like I’m bitching about it,” he said, “but on the other hand, if there’s a pot of gold somewhere that I ought to be having a share of, I would like to see it.”

I think the director wanted to leave it ambiguous how much was magic and how much was the characters being stupid or going insane.
People have died lost in the woods, not in middle of the nowhere but just a mile away from outer suburbs.
Almost all of the movie could be rationalized as some psycho (wo)man messing with teens lost in the woods although the weird looking mind control lifeless standing in the shack at the very end hints at magic (even then the guy was captured some time ago so you could get the same expression with opiods).

In 1999? A GPS device would have cost a couple of thousand dollars. They didn't even have the money to shoot on film.
What kids these days don't realize is that that was the era of the dumb phone, you could call people with it and text, but they didn't have camera, GPS or mobile internet.
