Nirvana had a cult following for starting out as a garage band that spoke truth to power and not giving an actual fuck of what people thought. Like Kurt's as edgy as some "alt-right" Youtuber but also made songs and looks good.

No, no, and no, but Faith No More did when Chuck Mosley was still the singer. Honestly, if you were born after 1979, don't try to have opinions about punk or "grunge" or "alternative" or anything else from that era.

Early Nirvana was really heavy and catchy. They wanted to merge The Beatles with Black Sabbath, and I think they accomplished that with the first album bleach.
As a teenager reading Kurtโ€™s list of favorite bands influenced me for sure. Fang Rules. Flipper rules.

you have no idea how good it was to be able to go to school with only whites, go to the mall, only whites, riding bikes around the neighborhood, meeting all kinds of cool and interesting people, some young, some old, all whites

Rock became lame, with the rise of RnB and Hip Hop and it made the mainstream turn towards black people to set what was "cool", except black people only listen to RnB/Rap, so that is literally what all mainstream music became with a side dish of generic ass Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, Lana Del Rey soft pop crap.

Rock would have stayed around if bands didn't all become utter dogshit in the late 90s and early 2000s. I mean look at St Anger alone, literally a 3 year old could master a fucking album better.
Doesn't help that backwards baseball cap, goatee, spiked frosted tips and THRASHER was what every band started LARPing as, then the final nail in the coffin was fucking SCENE EMO. Then both got mashed up into the unholy fucking awfulness that was Brostep.
If bands like King Gizzard, Amyl, Khruangbin, Tame Impala were around in 2003, Rock music would not have died in the way it did.
Pic related is what killed rock music. Late 1990s/2000s rock is a crime against humanity. It wasn't until Tame Impala and Arctic Monkeys did the entire genre start it's long road to recovery.

I'm starting to like kpop girl groups because they remind me of 90s girl bands like spice girls, which only a few years ago I would've vomited at the thought of. That's my opinion on modern mainstream.

This really was the spirit of the 90's. I miss how hopeful and optimistic the world was then. The 20's just seem awful by comparison.

The best and worst thing that ever happened to Anthony Kedis was "Under the Bridge." The song was undoubtedly their biggest hit... but it also convinced Kedis that he could sing, which he can't. He then translated that delusion to every future recording of his off-tune crooning. They were an avant-garde funk unit at one point and then became some vehicle for a tone-deaf guy.

I really liked their first album but "Purple," their second album is really underrated. Plenty of good songs.

I saw him live like 2 years before he was suicided and he gave this big speech about getting through the darkness together and sharing in the pain which kinda magnified the sadness of him not making it. If he wasn't murdered it had to be the benzos
