The Tellytubby gang is the least of this film's problems.

I know people like that it is shot on iPhone or whatever, but I think it looked pretty bad. I wasn't a fan of the hyperediting either except for maybe the 'boots' sequence.

People seem to like the ATJ portion of the film the most, and while the father/son bond was alright, and that portion of the movie was intense... it wasn't jaw dropping amazing either. The family drama that is the catalyst for the film is meh. The whole journey to the doctor never felt that gripping. The mother/son relationship didn't touch me at all, and I have liked plenty of mother/son type films. The morality of how ATJ vs the Doctor vs the Saville gang treat the infected infected is uninteresting.

idk I kind of liked this a lot lol. The zombies were fucking spooky, very erratic and unpredictable movement. The themes of accepting death and it's take on the heores journey...idk, it kept me entertained the whole way through. Of course we don't know all the answers behind this gang yet, how they're so clean or how they know martial arts, but I trust this will be explained in a grounded way in the next movie. I don't think the movie was perfect. I agree they could have handled the story line with Spike and his mother a little bit differently, but the direction they took with Spike's character was beautifully done and actually quite emotional. More so than with what we saw in the previous two films with our protagonists. The strange, dream-like, almost psychedelic tone that the movie gave was certainly different from the previous two, but it also added a lot of originality as it wasn't just trying to be a cheap World War Z rip off. I appreciate the risks this film took. It was veering on the edge of being a medieval dark fantasy, and the parts where it montages between different dark moments in British history really added in a lot of atmosphere and also stands as a reflection on British culture.

A plot element like "a pregnant zombie giving birth" isn't something that can really be easily downplayed, in fact Garland and Boyle are likely banking on elements like this keeping people talking about the film so that more and more check it out, possibly ensuring the third film gets the greenlight due to having raised enough money. But its a very big detail that should become an important plot point in its own right, more people besides just the soldier should be looking at that fucking thing as an abomination or a major source of concern. How on earth do they know that baby still isn't a carrier like the mom in 28 weeks, why aren't they worried that the infected may not die out if they now have the knowledge to know how to reproduce? Even failing that, there'd also be concerns about what would happen to the child as it "grows older", assuming the trilogy has ends with the zombie baby growing up or it just dies partway through Bone Temple because it came from a fucking zombie

This is really fucking stupid and illogical because they'll let people onto the mainland for literally no other reason than to kill infected and scavenge and then let them back in upon seeing they're not infected. So what difference does it make why you go to the mainland if you can come back? There were definitely better ways to contrive a reason as to why ATJ couldn't go and save them but that's what they went with. Realistically there would be much more rape in an apocalyptic world. It's super gross and uncomfortable to watch though, so they definitely made the right choice to keep it to a minimum.

In 28 days this "the humans are the real monsters" is present in the movies final act, and it was done in such a good way compared to most other zombie media.

28 years later doesnt have it at all like you mention. The most we get is the twat of a father, who in retrospect wasnt even that evil. The only thing that has me hopeful is the ending, with the jimmy savile cult clearly meant to be the next antagonists of the film.

The domestic violence wasn't domestic violence, that was Jamie being rightfully upset about his son acting out and pulling a knife on him, he didn't hit his son or abuse his wife. The soldier was close but they cut that really short. It was hardly there, that is to say it wasn't there at all, a grand total of three minutes in an almost two hour long film.

the horny soldiers in 28 Days didn't have any consequences either. Cillian, Naomie and the 14yo all survive just like at the end of the first half of the movie and everyone who dies was only introduced after that point. you could have had Brandon Gleeson's character drop dead of a heart attack and cut to the ending of the movie and the plot would have been the same.

Some other anon already talked about it earlier in this thread, but they could not even keep the mom's symptoms straight, they show her waking up screaming and being aggressive, and she quite as a mouse the entire way to the doctor. This pack of infected led by an intelligent Alpha was nearly MIA for the second half of the film, Spike and Isla and the Swede practically skipped and held hands through a field of flowers in the second half. A new born baby that doesn't cry. Spike makes it back to his village without a hiccup. Initially he was so nervous that he couldn't shoot straight but now after two days of roughing it he's a dead shot. The second half had no tension and made no sense. I'm sure there's more but that's what I remember off the top of my head.

British films are all shit you can't do horror
French films are 2% action, 98% dialogue but they make some very interesting films sometimes, like one about Albanian radicals laying low in an apartment waiting for someone to show up to arm them for some planned revolutionary action and most of them are just misanthropes, at one point they have to start larping as a remodeling crew to avoid drawing suspicion from their neighbors and they actually find out they can make some decent money doing it and by the end of the story they just said "fuck it" to their planned act of terrorism and became full time remodelers because it actually afforded them a decent life

British films never seem to be able to grasp this excepting films like Hot Fuzz and Shawn of the Dead, which was actually really fun of a watch, so I will give bongs this you make good comedies and used to make really good gumshoe flicks but your horror movies are always shit
