No I agree I think it's overall pretty good, and even some of the later season stuff, Tom Petty's character sucks but it still has its moments.

It's not even a comedy anymore, it's straight up no stakes drama of the aged version of the characters which have no soul since they constantly shit on and mock anyone they don't like (families with kids and anyone who doesn't try and mutilate their own kids genitals for political points)

As somebody who didn't watch the show growing up but binged most of it a couple years back I definitely agree with people who say it isn't funny. It's a comfy slice of life casual watch kind of show. The only truly funny parts are some of the Dale schizo parts and Boomhauer mumbling

I'll always respect Judge for making a show that (I think) is funny while not resorting to "poop butt penis penis penis SHITCOCK SEX buttsex ASS SEX DICK IN ASS PISS" style humor à la South Park or Family Guy. You're right. It is rarely uproariously funny, it's mostly about the mise-en-scene of it all.

Though, I do find the Hankisms very humorous. I also relate strongly to the Bobby character like so many other millennials. He's the goofy little boy inside all of us.
