The protagonist is one of the guys that are right now rioting in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York etc. and are lighting L.A. on fire. All because they refuse to be deported when robbing, raping and murdering people. I think the general public might have acute brown people fatigue. It's not cute anymore. I heard Pixar made two Elio movies. In the first trailers for the movie that was to come out in 2024, there are different scenes and different characters. Like for example Elio has parents. Then they re-shot a lot and that drove the production costs up to 300 million dollars.

Elio made 21 million on its first weekend in domestic box-office sales. It looks to be the worst Pixar movie ever.

The movie was in development hell for years and it became so bad that the original director fucked off and quit to work on Coco 2 and the new director had to salvage this 300 million dollar disaster.

Also the act that it was delayed twice (the second time was so last minute that McDonald's had to release Happy Meal toys for a movie that wasn't even coming out for another year) made it obvious Disney had zero hope for this movie.

I'm honestly surprised they even released it in the first place.

Both. In the movie the kids parents die and his aunt is raising him. She also kind of blames him for derailing her career to become an astronaut because she had to raise him after his parents death. So he turns to space and goes on a wacky adventure helping the alien son of a space warlord to reconcile with his father. Meanwhile the kid reconciles with his aunt.
