Yes... The first few seasons are very cinematic and absolutely packed with people who would go on to be bigger stars. The music was top tier and a lot of eps have endings you never see now. As the show was willing to end an ep with a loss or tie. Where as now every modern show has to have a happy wrap up.
the down side is the show devolves into one off eps by like season 3. As we know now the two leads had ego issues with each other and 3rd tier co-stars started to get their own eps. Yet still worth a watch. It's always going to be the icon level show of the 1980s.

Sonny was always dressed like a Miami drug dealer, Tubbs was always in a high end looking NY suit. The show show plays real fast and loose with the whole under cover cop VS cops just showing up to a crime scene or filling out police reports (on a typewriter of course).
They treat it like they live under cover because they are always investigating and around Miami night life looking for people doing a range vice crimes. It's not just drug deals.
