They spend two movies talking about the strong and glorious Gondor and then have them consist of one empty city with soldiers who are mostly shown as incompetent weaklings

>no prince Imrahil and his swan-knights
>no random Gondorian hill-men and fishermen that nonetheless come to Gondor's defense
>no Aragorn chasing the corsairs and allowing Southern Gondorian soldiers to help in the battle

Also

>no Sons of Elrond and Grey Company who help Aragorn rally the soldiers of Gondor (of which there are many many thousands) and kill everyone

Imagine the bro-outs we could have had with Imrahil, Sons of Elrond, Beregond etc. Too many characters I guess

If I could change one thing about the jackson movies, it'd be this. The ghost army was a neat spectacle, but REALLY out of place and lore ruining. It's like Aragorn suddenly finding a stash of nuclear bombs, using one of them, then deciding to break the others because someone said he made a promise of nuclear non-proliferation at some point or other. Having the ghosts scare the crews off the ships then loading up a real army would have been just as kino and make way more sense.

The entire country felt so dead, sterile, and empty. Almost all its great lords and warriors missing. No farms and farmlands, no outer wall surrounding Pelennor Field (but it's mentioned by Theoden and shown in the video game, implying that it was removed very late in production). Time and money must've played a huge part in why Return of the King felt so lacking. It was a mistake to produce all three movies at the same time.

Beregond and Bergil would've added so much heart and soul to Gondor and Minas Tirith. I didn't care much at all when Orcs assaulted the city. I had almost no emotional investment in Gondor and its people.
