I lived with air conditioning for a whole year once because I couldn't afford a new heat pump and air handler at the time. Did it suck? Yes. But when I was at home, I turned on electric fans. It was ninety degrees plus the humidity. Take your clothes off, sit beside the fan, and drink cold beer. That worked fine for me. Not great, but I endured.
