>>211843747 (OP)Ever see the Coupon: The Movie sketch? A Hollywood studio adapts the most popular coupon in the country into a full length movie and when the film flops, the studio sues the country for giving them bad information about what kind of movie they want to see and a judge orders everyone in the nation to see the film at least once. This is the reality we're going towards.
Mr. Show and the Simpsons are two '90s oracle comedy shows that somehow figured out what was coming based on the slippery slope of the Clinton administration. Shit, look how perverse culture became. Christian living became counter culture because it is the only culture where you're not a victim or a victimizer in this country.
>>211843747 (OP)What’s the draw beyond “this is a Disney movie”? You can’t fail 5 times and then wonder why nobody shows up for the 6th. Building trust with consumers is a long process that can only sometimes be circumvented by skilled marketing but usually just requires a mountain of good work for people to trust in.
The problem is that remakes are a cheap and easy way to build trust. Once you waste those opportunities, you now have to spend time making more expensive OC just to bring your company back up to zero.

This is "We made what you ordered, why didn't you pay for it?" Which is straight delusional and shows they didn't care that much about the movie if they were willing to change it over randos on bluesky bitching for updoots.
>>211843747 (OP)Maybe don't fucking spend 300 million on a movie?
A lot of these films would have made profit if they did not cost more than 100 million. Why the fuck are the budgets so bloated? A 200-300 million movie needs like 800 million to 1 billion to go into satisfying profit. Those are numbers reserved for like a couple of movies a year. But Hollywood is (supposedly) spending all that money on every other movie.
Is this Jonathan Ray guy serious? So because something is "original" it doesn't matter how fucking stupid it looks, we're supposed to applaud them and drop money on it?

>>211843747 (OP)They shot themselves in the foot by making the Pixar movies straight to streaming during the pandemic. A Pixar movie used to be an event. Then it was fed straight into the meat grinder. Now if you’re a parent, when one comes out you go “Do I want to spend a hundred dollars taking the whole family to the movies, buying snacks and drinks, and sitting in a theatre full of loud kids OR do I wait a few months and watch it at home for a fraction of the price?” If you’re a kid, you’re not clamoring to go to the latest Pixar movie because you have more mediums vying for your attention than ever before. If you’re a lone adult, you do not want to go to the movies to see a kids movie if only to avoid the optics.

>>211843747 (OP)the fuck was going to watch a movie about shitty frozen pizza
I don't know if it's the vaxx or demoralization or what, but it seems like middle class people are just too tired to do anything these days beyond work (if they even work) and vegging on the sofa. Maybe they'll muster the strength to go to a film, but if you have a movie that does moderately well, expect an immediate dip as the people who went to see it have to recoup for a month before they can manage to go out again. Only the poor seem to still have energy (not target of demoralization) to do anything, and even that's not much, and they can't afford to go to the theater.
tl;dr I bet Elio will do very well on streaming and mostly flopped because the kind of people who would see this already shot their energy wad going to Stitch a couple weeks ago.
