the truth is only the first two seasons were good (season 1 does have some weak spots but it gets a pass for being the first season). seasons 3 and 4 were carried heavily by hype and most people overrated the bad episodes (3x2, 3x9, and 4x4 are still rated way higher than they should be). by season 5 the hype died down and far less people were watching, which means the episodes were rated more accurately.

I'm trying to elucidate this more.
There's some a lot of lines Birdperson says in episode 2 that aren't entertaining or anything they are just purely the most basic lines possible to advance the plot in that moment.
and that was jarring to me because Rick and Morty has always at least had entertaining surprising writing even if it didn't always hit the mark.
but this was just crap, like they meant to go back over and find better lines but just forgot.
this is the bad part of writing seasons so fast, we may've got caught with a bad writing team finally and by the time we know it they'll have written 2 more seasons.

This is the first time I didn't bother to check the 1st episode of the season. The last season was so bad it made me hate the series, something even s5 and s6 didn't manage to do.

he would show up to get shitfaced in the booth and record lines now and then. that's it. he's too much of a manchild to coexist with the rest of the writer's room, which is a wild statement when one of the other people in that room is Dan fucking Harmon.
Rick and Morty is and always was a Harmon show. Roiland getting axed only changed who they were paying to portray the title characters.

Hasn't been good since season 1, season 2 was watchable. Anything after that has been pure reddit.

The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

Just curious is this IMDB rankings by user score or critic score? Either way it's completely fucking embarrassing. Season 5 and 6 were puke tier. I loved the show through season 4 unlike most people here. Pic related season 5 episode 3 was the last time I remember truly enjoying the show

I'm surprised no one's talking about the most recent episode (the Easter one). I think it might be the worst episode of the entire show so far. It was just painfully bad. I didn't laugh or even smirk once. Every "joke" just seemed to be gore or sex. And for the record I was kinda enjoying this season so far but that episode was awful. Hopefully everyone that was involved with the writing for that episode was immediately fired after finishing the script and the rest of the season is at least enjoyable.
