You are now in charge of making your own Alien series, please state your influences. Here are mine: MC Escher, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Y2K, Twilight Zone, Metroid, Chakan, Legacy of Kain
It took me a while to realize why people hated Alien 3 so vehemently beyond the depression, killing the secondary characters, the boring prisoners, etc.
Alien 1 & 2 are are wholesome as you can possibly get for a horror movie.
Alien 1 almost feels like some space trucker slice of life, the characters are genuinely comfy.
Alien 2 feels like it was catered to highschoolers with the stupid young adult marines that look like they never went to college.
But especially because the cat and little girl survive. Normally in horror movies they don't survive. Even the actors you expected to live they die and the actors you expect to die they live. Ripley did not feel like the main character in the 1st movie, Ripley felt more like the doctor from Alien 3 which unexpectedly dies after using up all that time giving him screentime. That's what horror movies are like. Alien &
Aliens is almost like an anti horror movie. It puts shields between you and the horror.
Aliens is just like a whacky insect & alien invasion movie but with more anticipation, horror, zerg rushing. Something Alien 4 lacked.
Alien 1 & 2 both have that pacing where countless bad things happen or make you think are about to happen and everyone starts picking up the pieces instead of calling it quits and suiciding. Both Alien & Aliens slow down the pacing and make it seem like it's fine, it's alright you just got facehugged or your ass kicked, IT'S FINEEEEE. So you can do that suspense and anticipation all over again as if the first scare never happened, that's the unique execution of Alien.
Otherwise when the action picks up Alien almost feels like a fucking Michael Bay movie. I'm more scared and annoyed at the smokes, fires, alarm, SHUT THE FUCK UP MOTHER than the actual Alien. The Alien is supposed to be a silent stealthy killer and fucking Mother keeps yelling in my eardrums "the ship will selfdestruct in 5 minutes" SHUT THE FUCK UP.
They really shouldn't have removed the deleted scene.
>>211866112Alien & Aliens are faster with the spooks than most horror movies like Alien 3.
Normally you don't get the same pacing repeated twice. You get 1 long anticipation and 1 long action sequence. Not 2x medium anticipation and action sequences repeated. Thus Alien & Aliens accidentally fixes the problem with horror movies and detective movies. If anything Alien & Aliens feel much more like a detective movie pacing and mechanical wise with its red herrings and conspiracies and traitors.
I wish Giger was a writer like Tolkien so he could add substance to his art beyond just staring at it and noticing there's nothing deeper than he had a traumatic birth experience and thinks birth is horrifying with all the blood, flesh, mechanical part,s syringes, doctors touching you pulling on your umbilical cord, etc. I mean grown ass men get scared of doctors and hospitals, let alone a newborn child.
Mine would be Alien but on a pirate ship
I'm split between the pyramid concept and the derelict. I agree with Giger that aliens should not be born from human-made objects or human-resembling structures.
I liked the idea that the eggs were growing from the derelict ship itself. I say split because I do like the destroying angels concept to make the aliens this neat lovecraftian god concept rather than ants. Or rather instead of them being ants or wasps they're something more weird to humans but perfectly normal to aliens & space like aliens being bred on asteroids from space dust & radiation being stored on asteroids.
