>>211881483 (OP)Newer John Oliver reeks of female millennial writing combined with obvious use of AI to write "jokes". The episodes in the first season actually seemed to have a point to them and they would actually sometimes cause some sort of social change because the journalism aspect of the show actually seemed to accomplish something. They would stumble upon some type of corruption in an industry or bring a voice to some sort of unheard issue, as cringe as that sounds, then call so much attention to it with their platform that they would accidentally force some sort of change.
Now it just seems like John Oliver is a mouthpiece for some bitch session by some pissy 30-something alcoholic women and I don't feel like the program really has a point anymore. If I had a chance to fix the show, I would hire more male writers and bring the show's balls back. It used to be that John Oliver genuinely seemed like he cared about fixing some sort of problem he didn't agree with, now it just seems like he's there to whine about shit and not make any real difference. Say what you want about Maher's sometimes half-baked opinions, but he's never quite lost his passion.
