I gave a couple of Heisei movies a shot and.. honestly I can't get past the dialogue. It's WAY too cheesy. If there was a Godzilla movie that has zero dialogue, just monsters duking it out, then I might watch it. Otherwise, I'm not very compelled, sorry.

The dubbing of the Heisei films is notoriously bad apart from G85 and Biollante. You're better off watching versions with accurate subtitles.

Thats been the godzilla format since day 1. You have humans in a room trying to come up with a plan and then godzilla shows up for a few minutes to wreck the place, then back to humans.
The original godzilla, and the reboots of the first movie all play that pretty straight.
All the other movies the price of entry is watching goofy dumb humanshit until its time to have guys in foam rubber suits to fight.

Even the sub sucks. Dialogue and the storyline is way too corny. They could have just had "2 monsters fight each other for no reason" and that would have unironically been more tolerable.

The closest thing is Godzilla x Kong, which intentionally minimized the human characters but still has them participating in the monster plotline.

King Ghidorah is one if not the silliest movie in the series, and weirdly xenophobic. Destoroyah isn't very good but it's held up by nostalgia and the weight of Godzilla dying. Neither are great entry points.

in the mid 90s i had the chance to watch some of em on tv, i liked the idea of it. i liked the idea of being an alt guy with some knowledge of offbeat kitsch but ironically sort of cool movies. it was a cool character to dream of. but the actual movies were so dog shit i couldnt get into it for real even ironically. its a question of patience i guess. i sort of hoped godzilla 1998 could fix this but nope, just a insta forgettable film.

Godzilla vs KK isnt on the nose as GMK or Minus One but its not straight up sympathetic to Japan in the war. The soldiers' nostalgia for the war is misplaced just like their sympathy towards Godzilla, the one guy even gets killed by him

Heisei is too samey, Millennium shakes the flavor a lot more, even with half of the movies being made by the same director. A lot of Heisei feels really empty, like the movies just exist to be blockbusters.

We seem to share the same mindset. I like the concept and the character. A nuclear fire breathing old school dinosaur ravaging through a metropolis and battling other monsters sounds cool. That's why I even decided to sit down and watch a Godzilla movie. But the movies themselveves were kinda lacklustre.

The Heisei era had way more original stories and creatures. The Milennium era spent most of its time rehashing the Showa movies. Badly. GXM,T:SOS, and FW are three of the worst movies in the series.
