Because the zombie apocalypse happened before Jimmy Saville was fully exposed as a pedophile he remained a figure popular with the kids. The gang in the end is led by a boy who was watching Teletubbies in the beginning, possibly other people in the gang are also surviving kids. They survived and grew up without adults I'm assuming so they adopted Jimmy Saville as a symbol for themselves and generally are acting like a kid would doing flip flops like in their favourite children's shows.

I assume it will go in a dark turn in the sequel but yes it's kinda jarring. The idea is that these kids are basically fucked mentally from growing up during apocalypse alone. I just watched this a second time at the kinoplex and had to fight to hold back laughter at the alpha's giant wiener flopping around in the train scene. I was alone in a crowded screening so I didn't want to look like a weird autist loner laughing immaturely at zombie dick, but all I could think about during the scene were the posters on /tv/ talking about it. Second time round I did laugh when they smash cut to credits whereas the first time round I was too shocked to process what I just watched.

Even though the movie as a whole doesn't work, I still enjoyed watching this on the big screen. My local cinema has it's own cheap version of Imax and this was totally worth seeing on the big screen. The music and visuals outshine the questionable story choices. Watched it twice and am unironically considering a third time. The story is bizarre but this is the first movie in a long time that enchanted me with the visuals and sounds, some it's sequences really make me feel the magic of cinema.
