I think current AI could easily make a Wes Anderson movie and none would be able to tell the difference between it and the real thing.

>young filmmaker makes two or three interesting, stylish, well-received indie films
>develops his own style
>style becomes mannered
>stagnates
>retreats further and further into empty formalism
>becomes a parody of himself by middle-age
This is a common enough trajectory for other kinds of artists but I can’t think of many other directors like this. Marty peaked early but he at least developed stylistically. Maybe Michael Mann? Tarantino to an extent.

yeah sadly this is such a common pipeline in the film industry, most directors peak at the start of their career because theyre fresh into the field and they havent been ruined by hollywood yet.

The ones directly to blame were Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman who have steered him away from soulful movies into, like you say, "empty formalism.
When he was making movies with Owen Wilson they all had heart and something to say... now it's just character standing around in dioramas where the staccato movement and line delivery is supposed to be "funny".

You can tell it comes from Roman Coppola specifically since he also tried to make a similar movies that was quickly forgotten so he's just been dryhumping Wes Anderson since.
