Very true and totally agreed. Predator 2 also showed exactly how to do a proper sequel for this type of story. Different characters in a different location, but still staying true and faithful to the original. Modern sequels have lost that. They feel they either need to keep dragging the same character through the muck until it's ridiculous or continually change things so it's unrecognizable except for the name.

Basically yes

Predator was a cool idea made by a director at the peak of his ability. The sequel had some good ideas (mostly stolen from the comics), and wasn't nearly as well put together.

I wouldn't say stolen. I'd say used wisely. I feel like the books/comics for nerdy stuff is the place to feel out ideas for fans and see what works then it should be used in movies. To just keep them completely separate is dumb. There's a lot of movie-only fans that miss out on good plotlines and moments

It’s so simple but it works so well. Actual jungle becomes concrete jungle. Tropic heat becomes LA urban heat(wave). Elite soldiers vs guerrillas becomes elite cops vs gangs. Different, but spiritually the same. Add in Danny Glover and Based Gary Busey and you have the best crossover ever made

No, it isn't. However, it is still great and not a precipitous drop that most sequels are.
Best scenes are the shootout at the start, the subway fight, the meat locker, and the gutter/downspout/bathroom scene.
Obviously, this is the majority of the movie, which results in it being a great movie.
I know that when I watched it when it came out, I really wanted a 3rd movie.

Main issue of have with P2 is that it takes place in the city. Predator in the jungles vs a group of people far from civilization is believable and thus scary and immersive.
Predator in the bigass populated city would have realistically be killed by the next druggie gang and isn't that scary and suspenseful.
They were aware of that issue and thats why they've tried to reinforce the idea that Predator is still scary even in the city by making him kill a couple of street gangs.
But still - it's not nearly as immersive and
suspenseful as the first one. Police would have gunned it down sooner or later.
And that's the big deal.
