>>211905623Every medium is subject to FOTM. FOTM for film right now is 28 Years Later. In my opinion, and some might disagree because its not the standard usage for it, but FOTM can also include things like "hidden gems" and other older media products, if they're being dug up and promoted by some influencer or taste maker, for example RLM do a re:View of some obscure old movie and all of a sudden you see a bunch of people parroting it as the GOAT. Retro video games were often subject to the same phenomenon where say Game Grumps or some other popular let's player or streamer would play a game, say it's good, then the value of the game would shoot up in price.
Now that doesn't mean that the FOTM thing isn't good, it's just that usually it's being overrated due to hype. That's why years ago I started not paying too close attention to discussion surrounding anything I like, whether it be film, video games, music, etc. If I notice something is getting hype, I'll make a note of it then watch/listen/play it at some point, but I try to always set my expectations as close to zero as I can.
The issue isn't really the medium itself, it's the consumers and the discussion surrounding the medium.
