When I was a teenager, Borat was pretty funny. It wasn't some kind of defining, generational comedy, but it was the kind of stuff that was hilarious for kids who were in their edgy, nihilistic phase and thought dumb racism and making fun of dumb people was funny.
Now that I'm older, I see Borat for what it is. A guy trying to make fun of dumb white people living in flyover states, trying to portray them as backwards, ignorant, racist, etc.
Instead, I just some dude who doesn't try to make comedy but to actually attack people who, even though doesn't understand nor is familiarized with his made up customs, try their best to accomodate for them and even tolerate it out of awkwardness.
I think it's a pretty telling showcase of how much bitterness and contempt this guy has for people.
