Been rereading Ambrose's band of brothers and rewatching. The show is much more accurate to the source than the Pacific, I'd guess because it's from a single source as opposed to multiple. Sopel has many come to his defense as he did participate in Normandy, but the hatred from the Easy company is palpable in their accounts. Winters has credited Sopel as getting the men ready for war, but also stated that Sopel was a chickenshit officer stateside and a terrible combat officer. Dike gets a similar treatment. The one that stands out to me is blithe, they weirdly dedicate an entire episode to him almost deserving to be shot in the neck, add in details about him not looking for his platoon during the invasion and stating that he died from his wounds in 58. In reality Blithe recovered from his gunshot to the neck and eventually reenlisted for duty in the airborne during Korea where he earned the silver star. Be passed away in 1967.

Have you read ambrose's book or any other source material for the playtone shows? With the old breed or my helmet for a pillow? My feeling is that the pacific does much worse characterizations than band of brothers, ie making sledge a boy his father said couldn't volunteer instead of a college student who left the ROTC and a future as an officer to join the marines. But it does show the randomness of war and casualties that "With the Old Breed" has as the central theme.
Band of brothers seems to mostly do a better job of historically accurate characters but in a few episodes goes out of its way to show how shitty soldiers die for hubris or cowardice.
