His style has been getting very tiring. I wish he'd stop leaning into it so much already. Its become derivative. Are we ever going to get rushmore kino again?

Kind of. Its more of the same but a little more soulless. its as if he's just going through the motions of this cinematography style rather than actually enjoying it.

The problem is the characters don't become interesting human beings, just placeholders of ideas/quirks. Then the set design + style take over.

Why do we watch "found (staged)" footage + nature documentary? Even they show living things having motivation, conflict, goals, a journey, behaviors. WesA is totally dressing up inanimate things + dolls.

I propose WesA's next film be starring Pedro Pascal in every role. "Protect the dolls" cos they're both anti-human.

he wont ever jump hurdles in the olympics either, but he can laugh when a formerly skilled athlete trips over and falls flat on his face.

The movies in which he wrote with Owen Wilson definitely have a different vibe and humor to them. I wish they’d collaborate again but I don’t think they ever will again

I am fresh after a screening. I don't think I understood everything in the movie, but I can openly say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Anderson can deliver a beautiful movie and it's worth going even if only for that. I found this movie's narrative compelling tho

Asteroid City is perhaps the worst movie I’ve ever seen in my 35 years on earth. I’ve watched Batman v Superman, I’ve watched Blade 3, I’ve watched Catwoman, I’ve watched The Room, I’ve watched Under Siege 2, I’ve watched Young Guns 2, I’ve watched all Friday the 13th movies. AC had one scene in it that I liked and found to be quite clever: the actual appearance of the alien. The rest was so extremely milquetoast that I found it less engaging than those truly bad movies, thus making it a more unpleasant to sit through.

I don't know if this is a copypasta or not, but I'm going to respond as if it's not.
My cousin and I like Wes Anderson. Fantastic Mr. Fox was a big part of our childhoods.
When Asteroid City came out, we were excited. I pirated it, and we got beer and snacks. It was awful.

The weird thing is Wes gets his films privately funded by a multi-billionaire but he still won't take any risks by changing things up? He could do "one for you, one for me" type films where he does his usual signature shit for one then does something "experimental" for the next. I remember how there were "theories" for the final shot of Moonrise Kingdom eschewing his usual symmetrical-shot style and people thinking he would leave it behind for his next film.

i wouldn't watch this if you paid me. last movie of his that had any entertainment value was the aquatic one. after that each movie is just like tabbing through your folder of liminal space images for 2 hours, but with excruciating actors tweeing out on top.
These movies seem to come from him just enjoying hanging out with celebs and celebs thinking there's something to be gained by 'acting' for him, but nothing is gained. nobody is going to remember the fucking whatever movie about the new york times or istanbul or whatever. 'Ahhh which of the 8 characters (celebs) was your favorite?'

Cope. It has the signature style Wes is famous for BUT it would actually shoot on-location as well. All his new movies are just shot in a fucking warehouse somewhere like any other slop director so they can control everything.

While I appreciate the artistry of Wes' set design and cinematography, his scripts are completely irrelevant and boring and the characters are simply caricatures. He's like a Tarantino that knows how to make films that are at least visually engaging.

I think the only Wes Anderson movie worth watching is Life Aquatic since the narrative framing somewhat forgives his shitty writing. The only Tarantino movie worth watching is Pulp Fiction since the story is somewhat engaging and relatively novel.
