What do you think of this Neuromancer fan film?
Does it capture how you imagine the characters looking?
Does it have the look and sound you had in mind for the cyberpunk story?
Will the Apple series be better or does this fan effort surpass it?

are they doing it?
im also scared of them ruining snow crash

im actually readong william gibson's later books im at spook country rn. his later stuff is more adaptable but less 'evergreen' it very much captures the mood of the time it was written in where's the 'mood' of neuromancer is fairly unique and in my opinion timeless.

I love the Sprawl trilogy and I love the Bridge trilogy, which oddly enough in spite of also being cyberpunk books feel more grounded and closer to present tech (for instance nobody goes into space).
None of his later work gripped me.

Also I know everything is incestuous and rips off ideas and vibes from everything else but holy fuck James Cameron's Dark Angel was literally just the Bridge trilogy + his furfag autism added in

Neuromancer is going to be an Apple TV show
Apple TV has made that their niche, taking "unfilmable" books and spending a quarter billion dollars at a time making forgettable postmodern slop that no one will ever watch

I know enough genre fiction to know this should be the biggest thing ever, that it was met with reverent whispers for decades, and instead it's just infinite nothing, like if somebody made a shitty overwrought tv show based on lord of the rings

funnily enough i started watching it while reading all tommorow's parties. im still stuck somewhere in season 2 where it gets kinda boring.

max is basically chavette (bicycle message living in a shared run down apartment in semi-homelessness in a west coast US city) mixed with a little of laney (experimented on as a kid to get mental superpowers with various side effects)

a lot of episodes had very strong bridge trilogy vibes. but it starts off amazing and the quality gradually goes down it just feels like theyre running out of ideas.

like it made Netflix angry that they made something that good and they called experts in to fix it immediately

I know it utterly dishonored the books but I loved it because it honored cyberpunk itself, it was just a tall handsome sad guy wandering around rainy neon shooting degenerates and fucking bitches, it was like if somebody made a whole series out of a Blade Runner 2049 tribute AMV

Also out of all the villains who did literally nothing wrong nobody ever did less wrong than her, she was literally the greatest hero in the universe and we're supposed to hate her just because she wants to fuck her own brother

In my experience, lots of normies are aware of it but their attitude is something like "of course they gotta have token diversity! LOL!", as in they know it's forced but don't take it seriously enough to be bothered. Then there's the kool aid drinkers who think of it like real social progress and will never see reason. Lots of boomers seem to be this way for some reason, my own theory is that they like to think their generation "solved" racism so criticizing diversity casting is on par with saying a black man shouldn't be president. Anyway, just pick your battles and know your audience.

i feel like it's a double edged sword in terms of running a show since on one hand you can switch out actors all you want and have a good excuse (different sleeves). on the other hand its hard for different actors to convincingly play the same character. s1 takashi and s2 takashi dont feel like the same dude which is probably why it died in s2

It's somehow even worse when the author is a diversity minded shitlib to begin with yet this is never good enough for the adaptation

Like how GRRM went out of his way to write an entire continent of cool magic black people and an entire other continent of rich powerful arab people and even set half the fucking story in arab land and somehow people still went "Why the FUCK isn't everyone in Winterfell black?"

Looking at the casting of this Neuromancer shitheap, they've got some nobody bong model as Case (might be good), Dane Dehaan as Rivera (actually terrific pick for the sleaziest creep in the universe), the French chick from Harry Potter as 3Jane (not bad at all), Mark Strong as Armitage (absolutely fucking based jesus that's like the one dream casting they pulled out of this)
They turned Deane from an old British guy into a Morgan Freeman impersonator. Fair enough, he's a minor character anyway, and his primary attributes are being old as shit and a jerk.
Why'd Molly have to be black?
I'm not seeing Malcolm in the cast. Don't tell me they cut the Jamaican guy from the original novel whose whole characterization was that he was the only crew member who was a flat-out good person, just tough and loyal (there's William Gibson being a good 80s progressive for you), but they had to make Molly fucking Millions black.

we had people in orbit pretty much continuously for 40 years now. starting pretty much right after necromancer was written. the bridge trilogy is just very locale-focused on places william gibson has been in in person so he doesnt mention any space stuff.

he heavily incorporates the current buzzword tech into his books like virtual light is heavily based on 80s vr and 1990s popsci promises of how nanotechnology would evolve. idoru is inspired by early voice synthesizers imo and what would later become vocaloids.

the third trilogy im reading now has web forums, computer spyware,ECHELON surveillance program, and steganography as major motifs in the first book (pattern recognition) and i just started the second one but it appears to heavily feature electronic bugging,GPS,VR, 3d modeling and sampling irl stuff for vr... he also uses characters in the novel to make 'metacommentry' about his earlier books like he talks about the internet,vr,the gps grid are kind of like what he envisioned as 'cyberspace' earlier.
