How can comic book movies stop feeling stale? Do they have to go into hibernation for a while, or are there aesthetic changes that can be made?

It should be noted that the MCU is currently adapting some of the most hated/mediocre characters from the comics. They scrapped their 2 biggest heroes and pretended everything would be the same with a bunch of C/D list heroes. But yes the writing and other stuff also suck.

Post modern capeshit can be traced back to a single nexus point, that is Batman V Superman. That movie was capeshit on high octane, it took risks and tried to push all aspects of filmmaking to the limit. But people said “no” and studios took that very very personally to the point where capeshit movies became unfortunate caricatures. Outside of that most capeshit is directed by yesmen nobodies nowadays. Noteworthy directors (like Nolan, Del Torro, McQuarrie) are staying far and wide from capeshit. What happened to Snyder was a cautionary tale and nobody with self respect wants to get caught up in the shit he dealt with. Affleck stuck his nose back in for a second but left after Gunn became CEO stating “I would never work for James Gunn” after Gunn implied otherwise.

The key to fixing capeshit is to scrap these committee forged universes and going back to standalone products that directors can feel passionate about.

Stop making shared univers It makes the whole thing boring to watch. I saw Doctor Strange in 2014, I didn't watch the MCU sequel. When I wanted to watch Doctor Strange 2, I didn't understand why his girlfriend from the hospital was getting married to someone else, why he was using his powers in full view of everyone, etc.
Let comic book publishers be independent and therefore able to sell exploitation rights to several film studios with different visions and ambitions. Focus on making a film and not just on the superhero movie aspect.
Use as many practical effects as possible.

Watchmen was great, for example. Just make movies for adults. It's that's simple. But they don't want to do that because it's risky I guess, so they make some feel good PC slop that pseuds can veg out to

People don't like superhero movies where they try to cram in too much into one movie, or make it too long. It's one reason Spider-Man 3 was so disliked, they wanted to fit TWO main villains in and didn't develop either one properly. The novelization (based on the script) addresses all of the plot holes but it would've made the movie at least thirty minutes longer than it already was.
