The story with the female Robin in the comics is painfully dogshit and taints Batman even today. Admittedly it isn't actually because of the Robin though, she's really sweet and peppy, but the writer comes off as a woman hating psycho and has Bruce act that way too. Legit probably one of the best Robins and she's ryonabait who is never acknowledged by batman and is raped and tortured to death.

The comics have had female Robins since long before it was considered progressive or cool or even a good idea.

Batman should never have a sidekick. As if Bruce is going to risk his entire identity and operation being revealed if he hires the wrong brat or the kid gets kidnapped and tortured into confessing everything.

Steph was crappy though, and her existence doesn't make sense without Tim being Robin first. If they really wanted a female Robin they should use Carrie Kelley. Although either way it would be a waste, they haven't even done a decent Robin at all yet. Going from Dick to Jason to Damian over a few movies could be great if they actually wanted to do it well (Tim can be safely skipped, at this point they'd just make him gay anyway).

they'd never do that because having 3-4 robins running around is convoluted and only done in comics because they've been going on for so long. realistically there's only room for dick grayson because he's the first and whichever one they want to be the current one, and then they just composite whatever traits of the others they want the current one to have.

This is why the Animated Series went from Dick to Tim and skipped Jason while still giving him something loosely akin to Death in the Family, and why the animated movie universe skipped them both and went from Dick to Damian. The DCU will probably do something similar since Gunn already said they're using Damian.
