Okay, let's settle it: what is the official cut off point for when the series turns to shit?
When you turn 15, or if slow 27.
My gut tells me season 11 is the last good one.
>>211970022 (OP)Aspect ratio change.
It would have been hilarious to end the show on Dennis’ crash out and going to be a dad, but the follow up episode was too funny.
So the boat, they should have all drowned
>>211970022 (OP)I love this part right before The Waitress sits down as Charlie is reading the book. Just scoffs like whatever he’s reading is total nonsense.
>>211970022 (OP)Just don't fucking watch it if it's shit! How retarded are you fucks?! Every goddamn year it's the same shit with this board and yet the second an episode drops there's watch threads bitching about every fucking thing. Just stop watching it! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
>>211970022 (OP)I still like it.
Gang goes to hell is the ideal finale
probably season 7 or so but there are still good episodes here and there. this was in season 12 and it's one of the best episodes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lbz08D_69pA
>>211970022 (OP)as soon as you see Mindy Kaling, turn it off, it's that simple
1 is proto-sunny
2-7 are golden age
8-13 are still decent but with a decreasing proportion of great episodes each season. still some classics in those seasons though
everything past is shit
>>211970321Decent assessment.
>>211970180This. I remember me and my gf watching the show back in the day and always laughing out loud during every episode. When the aspect ratio changed the laughs turned to just a few chuckles per episode.
>>211970288>one of the best episodes>stand out joke is mac's dildo bike....because haha he's gay!>haha they say faggot and nigger, so funny even though they did that in earlier seasons already
>>211970022 (OP)I stopped watching right at the episode where they host a children's beauty pageant, I lost all interest in it because it became painfully obvious they weren't trying to be funny anymore, just outrageous and repulsive. Frank hard carried this shitshow.
>>211970022 (OP)after s11
its still decent though, but 1-11 is peak
>>211970321This is what I live by
>>211970354>reductionist analysis haha!
when mac got ripped
by that point the flanderization was out of control and it became clear that rob no longer cared about maintaining character integrity, only about gimmicks and using the show for his own personal vanity
>>211970359oof, you tapped out way too early. there are a lot of great episodes past that point
watch chardee macdennis and the gang beats Boggs at least
everybody hates Frank's Brother but I love that episode
>>211970022 (OP)OP, quick question, what is her name?
>>211970497I didn't like that at all but there's still good episodes past that.
>>211970497I, too, enjoy that episode.
>>211970539The only solid laugh I remember getting from it is at the end where they concede their long lost love actually looks like shit now.
>>211970593I got laughs from Lance Reddick's whole performance, shady nasty's, "ehh... do a bump a COKE", Frank's cocaine bender, "those were the days", shadynasty choosing drugs, the ugly reveal, "it cain't still be like this!", and the general 60s/70s music and vibe of the flashbacks
I see why people don't like it but I love it
>>211970354Shut up, faggot.
there are shit episodes in every season and there are good or even great episodes in every season. Last one had
>Frank shoots every member of the gang
>the gang goes bowling
>Dennis takes a mental health day
which were great and frank vs russia which is imo the best ep in the entire show.
>>211970022 (OP)when they hired Megan Ganz it was over
>>211970180aspect ratio change is when the show actually dies, but it was still watchable a few more years after that. peak sunny is season 3, 4 and 5.
>>211970893not even sure what season those episodes are in. but no, the best episode of sunny is not in a zombie season from the past few years.
>>211971657>not even sure what season those episodes are inthe last one. I said it in my post
>but no, the best episode of sunny is not in a zombie season from the past few years.you haven't even seen it
>>211971833shows don't magically produce their best work years after it became evident the creative team stopped giving a shit
>>211971204Rob is ruining the show more than her. she agreed the show should've stayed in a 4:3 aspect ratio
>>211971876again, you haven't seen it
>>211972044doesn't matter, I'm still right
>>211970022 (OP)its been established quantifiably.
> season 10they stopped writing and brought in outsiders (women and minorities). It went to complete shit from there
>>211971876there are shit, barely watchable episodes literally starting in season 1. What changed is the ratio of good to shit ones in the last couple of seasons. There's more shit ones but the good ones are just as good as they were
>>211972128in your mind you can always be right if you choose to never challenge your views
>>211972156the peaks of zombie seasons are not magically going to be so far above the average quality that they exceed the peaks from earlier seasons with much higher average quality
the very notion is retarded
>>211972212I challenged my view. I considered how likely it would be that anything sunny produces today tops or even matches the high points of the golden years. after due consideration I realized that no, that's not going to be the case, and only a retard would think otherwise.
>>211971833Mental health day is okay. I don't know why people fellatio it as a return to form.
>>211970225Heh, let the record show I side with Shakespeare on BREVITY
Personally I haven't watched the last couple seasons and I think the tipping point for me was the episode with Mac's gay dance performance.
>>211972287>I challenged my view>by imagining i'm right and therefore concluding i'm rightschizo territory
>>211972233that's not what i said at all tho
>>211972407I challenged my view by considering the strongest form of the opposing case. it's called steel-manning.
you don't seem all that familiar with critical thinking quite frankly.
>that's not what i said see
>>211970893, specifically:
>frank vs russia which is imo the best ep in the entire show.this is the claim under dispute. I don't give a fuck who said it, and I don't give a fuck about whatever you said that you think i'm talking about
>>211970022 (OP)When it gets enough episodes to go into syndication
That goes for pretty much every tv show.
>>211970180that's a good one actually. that said, Flowers for Charlie (picrel) is AMAZING and the old ladies show one too.
>>211970180this
there are some good episodes after, but it's a completely different show after the aspect ratio change.
same with TPB
>>211972504you're making strong opinions about something without putting the absolute minimum effort it takes to form them. In this case just watching the eps. How can i treat you seriously?
>this is the claim under disputeagain, you haven't even seen the eps
>>211972562>Flowers for Charliecheck who wrote it
>>211972143Your image says season 13 is when they shitted it up.
>>211972686I'm drawing logical conclusions from established premises, anon. if you can't take logic seriously, nobody needs to bother taking you seriously.
I don't need to watch any of the latest episodes to know that none of them could ever possibly be the best in the show's history, because I already know from seasons 9-14 that overall quality has been on a sharp annual downswing with no signs of changing.
ask yourself, when's the last time you heard of a show suddenly getting good again after half a decade of decline? never. because it doesn't happen. that's simply not how the world has ever worked or will ever work.
>>211970362Seconding this. There’s a noticeable writing change in season 12.
>>211970022 (OP)11 is the last one where goodwill can still excuse some of the staleness
>>211972830i don't even need to read this post to know it's shit and wrong. It's called steelmanning
>>211970022 (OP)It never becomes completely shit but they set such a high bar with the early seasons that it's kind of impossible to ever measure up to that again. I think S1-5 are the golden era, but everything past 6 is still pretty funny.
>>211973143that was my reaction too
>>211972981The other anon is right; there is no way the best Sunny ep is in the last season. I don’t even remember the one you’re referring to and I have seen it.
I've been watching faithfully since 2005 when I stumbled onto this show as a 15 year old boy.
I would still say there are good episodes in every season. But I'll admit there is a pretty noticeable dip from season 13 on.
>>211970180You don't need to be euphimistic. you can just say Fat Mac
Season 7 was their final consistently good season. The next few had half good half bad episodes. Don't watch past S10 though, it's dreadful now.
>>211973413you don't remember the ep with frank playing chess with a buttplug?
>>211970022 (OP)last season was bretty gud thoughbeist
>>211970022 (OP)All I can say for certain is the last season was a big let down. Like every week or other week(I'm positive they didn't release every episode regularly) I was left wanting more and feeling let down. Especially when the breaking bad cast showed up. My dumb ass even watched the Abbot elementary cross over and that was sadly better than most of the episodes of the last few seasons. I remember being let down enough that I would go back to find some good episodes and maybe besides the gang broke dee or the water park episode like the last five seasons or so fucking suck and have zero rewatchability. I can watch the Night Man Cometh over and over. Who shat the bed? I still use that as a litmus test to show girls I consider getting serious with. But fuck I really can't think of any "recent" episodes that I would use to recommend to get people into the series.
>>211973991Name five times you laughed really hard
>>211974041Jackie Chan
Jackie Chan
Jackie Chan
Jackie Chan
Jackie Chan
>>211974041The episode where Frank kept shooting everyone
Season 11 is the last watchable season. 12+ is GARBAGE.
Source: watching the show since it first aired.
>>211970022 (OP)It starts really declining after season 7 but its not totally shit until season 13
there are two noticeable moments
>they mocked trump
>the actors attended pride parade
after that the hate for this show increased drastically here irregardless of the actual quality. It's similar to how people here say "rick and morty turned to shit in s3" or "ozark turned to shit in s3". Just chudism. There's nothing more to it
>>211974626Why do chuds have such good taste?
>>211974655in case of rick and morty you can't even call it bad or good taste as they were saying it BEFORE s3 dropped. That's all you need to know
I dropped it in S7 after that episode where they are stuck in the sewers but S6 was also pretty bad.
>>211974626that must be the only explanation for why the show only gets a few hundred thousand viewers now
>>2119703212-5 and 6-9 instead, but not far off.
>>211974989Weird that chuds were seemingly the majority of their audience yet they decided they didn't want their views.
>>211974004>I still use that as a litmus test to show girls I consider getting serious withHow exactly? I'm interested
IASIP is great right through season 12 with "Hero or Hate Crime" being arguably the peak of the series. S13 onwards is a sharp decline with only a couple of good episodes per season from that point onwards
What happens when frank dies
>>211975286They keep dragging it out.
>>211975286they throw him in the trash
Swap Charlie with Shawn Spencer from Psych.
Which show improves the most?
>>211974989are you seriously posting tv ratings for a show that most people watch on streaming? Imagine being this dishonest. Show is clearly still popular as they are literally in their 17th season now. And it's not as cheap to produce as it once was
As someone who rewatches episodes every single night, I can't afford to be that selective. But in doing so, I can pretty safely assert that there are highly rewatchable episodes in every season.
The show is obviously at its best with a mid-2000s feel and those era-specific sentiments, and like any series the characters end up becoming caricatures of themselves over the years. There were moments in the last season that made me cringe, some that even felt completely out-of-place in the Sunny universe... but there was also genuinely funny moments that felt like the show we all know and love.
I'm personally excited for the new season, but I always will be. Til the bitter end.
>>211975286If he was dead, you could bang him all you want. Who cares? Dead body's like a piece of trash. I mean, shove as much shit in there as you want. Fill him up with cream. Make a stew out of his ass. What's the big deal? Bang him, eat him, grind him up into little pieces, throw him in the river. Who gives a shit? You're dead, you're dead.
>>211974999nope, I'm correct and you're a dumb faggot.
>>211970022 (OP)I cut them off after season 7
>>211975286Toss him in the soup. If somebody notices? Then you toss them in the soup
>>211970022 (OP)Whatever season the Gang Buys a Boat was, or Lethal Weapon 5, whichever was later. Those were the last good episodes I remember
>>211970022 (OP)is this show any good?
>>211970022 (OP)The gang goes to hell is the consensus series end. Season 12 is unbelievably painful to watch compared to everything that came before.
>>211979564the first 5 seasons are funny
>>211970180https://youtu.be/Td9RXWDwj18?si=l9-igxecKSy3gi1O
Rob killed the series
>>211972733That's fucking crazy lmao
>>211972625Speaking of TPB, it's weird how similar the two shows are. A few friends put together a show they star in (minus Clattenburg) where everybody is either some form of addict, a massive dick, or some combination of the two. A lot of the humor comes from both the ridiculousness of the characters as well as the absurdly petty ways that they betray each other. The show is great and gains a cult following, but slowly decays through flanderization and an increasing reliance on shock humor until it's almost unrecognizable. The creators, who have tried and failed to move past the show, are now old and gray but are still forced to play caricatures of their formerly-great characters. Honestly, I'm surprised neither the boys nor the gang ever thought to make a crossover.
>>211974255The Gang goes to a Water Park is the last hurrah, everything from then on is almost unwatchable
>>211979660Why is he being such a passive aggressive prick
>>211970497Shady nasties?!
>>211970433Sadly true.
There are still the occasional funny bits but they're just too old for what the show was originally about. 50-year-olds being losers has a very different vibe to 30-year-olds being losers.
>>211970497Lance Reddick is amazing in that episode RIP
>>211970022 (OP)There is none. If you cut off Always Sunny it's probably because they made fun of trump (you) and you missed the point.
>>211979831why can't these assholes just have some self-respect and end their show
>>211970022 (OP)Season 5. It is Always Season 5.
After the one take with Charlie keeping the bar afloat I remember just thinking they've topped it I don't need to see anything else
>>211983121it's a goddamn petition what the hell!?
It's Always Sunny should have ended at that highschool reunion season finale.
>mac comes out in season 12
it was over long before that
>>211970022 (OP)Fat Mac OS the last pure season.
Legacy seasons continue until Mac becomes fully gay.
Gone to shit seasons until Glen leaves.
Zombie show since then.
I dropped it more than a decade ago, 2013 probably but not sure, it didn't feel as good. I didn't know it was still airing. It must be a shitshow by now.
>>211980038>plays a faggot on TV>is a faggot in real lifeincredible

>>211970893I literally can't remember any of the episodes except for the Mental Health Day one and that's like 10 seconds of notable content. I don't watch the new episodes with any disdain, I just don't find them witty or unique in any way usually
>>211970022 (OP)whatever season was the one right before the orange man bad season with the poo woman from the office
>>211970090Pretty much. I watched it all the time in my teens and then one day it was like a switch went off and I couldn’t find it funny anymore, even the early seasons. I think I stopped watching around the Jersey Shore episode.
>>211990032>it was like a switch went off and I couldn’t find it funny anymoream 26 and that happened recently. so
>>211970090 checks out
>>211979564It was fantastic for a time. Unfortunately one of the co-creators stuck his head up his own ass, forgot what made the show funny and hired a bunch of diversity hires. You should watch it but whether it's worth watching beyond a certain point is debatable.
>>211980038He was raised by two lesbians.
>>211984372There's still plenty of good episodes beyond that but it would be a very fitting end to the series and would've ensured the quality never dipped.

>>211970022 (OP)There's only maybe 50 really good episodes total but I couldn't exactly pinpoint when there's more bad episodes than good per season
gay dance
female writers
glen leaving
fit rob
whole cast getting bogged
fx contracts being "5 more seasons" instead of one at a time
rob publicly ashamed of "non pc" seasons and "male writing room"
rob making other shows and becoming hollywood rich
all actors getting network sitcoms in between seasons
