I watch Animation Domination. I caught this episode. This show is some of the most awful slop you will EVER watch on TV nowadays. Well over half of the lines in it are not jokes, but just references to other shit so people on social media can go "LOOK WHAT THEY REFERENCED! THIS SHOW IS SO GOATED!!!" For example, this episode had a Smiling Friends reference. There's no joke to it, just that they're called "Screaming Friends" and it's a bunch of objects with eyes (when does the show do this) running around screaming (this I get)

This whole debacle really highlighted why The Simpsons is so bad when presenting character deaths, "One will die", huh, will it be one of the main characters, their immediate family members, those very commonly utilized secondary characters or this one random two-episode jew wizard they tossed in with them in the picture?
They never kill off major characters (Outside of Maude who was killed out of spite because the voice actress wanted a rise and walked when told no, and Edna because the voice actress died), they just kill minor background characters, even when Phil Hartman died they didn't even bother killing off his characters and making note of it within the show, just quietly retired them.
Recently I heard one of those background drunkards from Moe's bar died and they actually had the gall to center an entire episode around it despite the character never being of any note, because they'd never dare kill off Moe or Barney, even tough that would actually be a poignant moment in Homer's life, but they still want to pretend like that random guy dying was a massive emotional blow for him, it's the perfect example of wanting the cake and wanting to eat it too.

I love Skinner, his character provided the show with some of its best serious moments (the episode where he goes out with Patty, the one where he gets fired and Bart finally understands regret and becomes friends with him as a result). Plus, his Vietnam segments were hilarious.
I think the biggest issue people have with it is that it was the moment the show decided dumb, cheap, shitty retcons that take up entire episodes would be seared into the rest of the show from then on out.

I met Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein and they mentioned that one of their reasons for starting Mission Hill was because every character of The Simpsons was either under 12 or over 30, and that they wanted to explore writing characters in their teen and young adult years. My issue with the Tamzarian episode is not that it ruined a beloved character, it's simply that the joke makes no fucking sense. Skinner is well-established to be a mama's boy and the flimsy explanation of denial over losing her real son is too stupid to explain the plethora of Norman Bates jokes the show did up until that point. I'm not talking about in terms of canon, which is largely irrelevant in The Simpsons. But the thing with The Simpsons is that most characters at their core are relatively simple stereotypes: donut-eating cop, rich miser, good Christian, hardworking foreigner, divorcee who has given up, etc. If they wanted to do a meta-episode about everything going back to status quo there were a million other characters they could've picked yet for some fucking reason they picked basically the one single character whose established stereotype requires him to be his mother's biological son.

Jon Hamm is a detective with a "Crime Mind" which is basically the brain blast from Jimmy Neutron. This doesn't happen every episode but I'd say it's one of the examples of this show trying to be creative compared to the other shows out there on Fox. I agree with your sentiment about the art style but you really do get used to it. Not sure how long it will last but I've been enjoying it into the second season which will conclude soon but S3 is happening. I don't know if you like American Dad but I've always favorably compared it to that. Characters are done consistently and well. I think it's a perfect show that fits under the 3 episode rule.
