There isn’t anything you can do.

Most people have streaming and the internet to watch movies.

And Zoomers and Gen As/Bs only care about watching Tiktoks/youtube-videos/instragram-reels on their iPhones. They don’t even have the attention span to watch anything longer than five minutes (especially if it isn’t shot vertically with meme music in the background).

Movies and Television are dead.

They as always built these things too damn big. Banks? Multiple floors of nothing for a single ATM and 1 teller. Shuts down later because it's costing more than it's worth, building bulldozed for paeking lot. Malls? Empty space for 1 or 2 anchor stores, shuts down and gets bulldozed for parking lot. Movie theaters? 12 screens for 1 profitable film at summer season that gets shutdown and bulldozed for parking lot. Restauraunt? Whole building of 56 tables in a nation of fast food and delivery. Bulldozed for parking lot etc. Most of these things would be less risky and easier to maintain had they not been built to fuckhuge sizes, and they wouldn't be bulldozed if they were small enough to easily convert. But since they weren't and have nothing around them but parking lot, you end up with a Scooter's with 100+ parking spaces around it

This shit is fucking retarded.
Smart phones can rotate, why would you not want the thing to be larger horizontally.
I see YT vids that are just small boxes in teh middle, with subtitles which are clearly intended for these zoomer retards.

Cinema is dead though. Internet killed it.
Though theatres will still be open as the novelty will still be there, I just expect the industry to get smaller.

Low energy societies. Most people over the age of ~25 in the middle class are just too tired to do anything these days beyond go to work (if that), then return home to veg on the sofa while mindlessly phone browsing, watching something on a streaming service, or playing videogames. When they do muster the energy to go to a movie, it's probably only going to be one time a month, so once you have an 80mil+ opening weekend, you can count on the next few weekends being flops.
The remaining markets are the non-working poor, who can't afford to see many movies to begin with, and the mid/late zoomers + Gen Alphas, who don't tend go to movies for other reasons. The only way you can convince them to go is with memes, so you better have a Barbenheimer or CHICKEN JOCKEY moment to get them to go.

It just makes no sense. I can watch it at home in fantastic quality and comfort and I have a better range to choose from
Someone mentioned the predicted box office for this year and listed out the movies. Out of curiosity, I went and looked at what came out 30 and 40 years ago (95/85) when tickets were MUCH cheaper and the general experience MUCH higher quality. The quality of films was insanely higher with much more range to choose from. On one night you could pick from The Usual Suspects, Seven, Casino or Toy Story. In 85, on one weekend you could pick from Back To The Future, The Return Of The Living Dead, Gremlins or To Live And Die In L.A.

You'd be hard presses finding one worthwhile movie a month now.

Just to re-emphasize that. We won't have one movie this year aimed at adults as good as Seven or Casino, nor any family films as good as Toy Story or Back To The Future. It's one thing to raise the prices and lower the quality of the venue, but then you add in a complete lack of quality content to encourage people to even go, you're doomed.

I'd say this is true for ~60% of us (definitely higher for Alphies though), but there's definitely enough for it to continue being viable.
I really think that theaters will have to go back to what they were like before the 80s where small, 3 theater comfy spots will do better than the plexes given cinema will become something more akin to live music or the plays that are a more niche thing.

Op here. My thoughts. The first movie I saw in the cinema was star wars. I watched big by traveling to London by myself. I had my first kiss in the cinema watching tango and cash.
I love movies but only 25% of them are any good. I used to buy VHS and then dvd and then Blu-ray until I realised this is all bullshit and I torrented everything.
I actually have had a free pass to watch movies a the cinema for the last 11 years. I literally only go 4 times a year for big blockbuster movies. The rest my home setup will do.
I used to go to the cinema with my friends but my circle of friends that I was tight with has died through one thing or the other. So I no longer visit as I used to. I probably would do to an independent cinema house like the price Charles theatre in Leicester square, but even then I'd think do I really need to spend the money when I could just torrent it at home for free and lounge in my underwear.
Dickheads talking eating, playing with Thier phone annoyed me when I used to go to evening showings so I only go to early morning shows usually between 9 and 11 am.
I have no kids. So I'm not taking them to the cinema to watch the latest movie and pass on my tastes. I do take my younger cousins occasionally and taking three kids, paying for food, parking tickets etc is just expensive.
So yeah I think cinema is cooked. Th shows I do go to are almost empty. I literally have an IMAX theater to myself.
Thing is do I really care anymore. Wokery bullshit fucked up everything. If I compare releases year by year from things now to pre 2005 there no comparison. Plus I've pretty much seen most things. The rest I can torrent. And TV shows now have such great production values they are essentially long form cinema.

Speaking of paying, ticket prices should be half what they are now. And loud smelly minorities should be banned, but since they can't do that legally, have showings of actually good movies that aren't for children and ban the sale and consumption of snacks for those showings. Having a girlfriend to go see them with. I don't. So I pirate virtually everything and never leave the home. Comicbook superhero movies suck. Lots of movies suck now.

>And why did you leave?
No gf, no reason to go. I mean look at all the stupid girl-centric stories. Every single popular 80's icon getting shoved aside so a know-nothing girl with low sex appeal takes over and kills the franchise. I hate it. It's the kind of crap right up a chick's alley. I don't have one so I'm not capitulating.

People are going to start frolicking in fields and playing the flute again, because we're all so done with technology.

18 euros a ticket, not counting drinks or snacks. Movies being almost 3 hours long now. No breaks, so 3 hours straight in a chair. Dolby Cinema Atmos not really adding anything of value to some movies. The mainliners are nothing original, remakes mostly that are upgraded to match political mindsets nobody cares about. The same film comes out on stream 2 months later where you can watch it in the relaxing environment of your personal home. Where you can pause and take a break whenever you want to and eat dinner or have whatever snacks you have without breaking the bank.

Going to have to lower the cost. I think most people like going to the movies but the cost isn’t worth it. Got a family, you’re dropping over a hundred bucks easy. In the past, you could go to all the new releases without breaking the bank. Now you have to be more picky

In the coming era we're just going to see film and other artistic pursuits return to being the forte of weirdos, much like they were for the prior 10,000+ years of human history. The masses and third worlders will consume AI-generated content pumped out by corporations and the only people able to turn being an artist into a career will be the weirdos making movies about things that mainstream, high-end AI models won't be able to legally generate and monetize, like graphic rape or animal torture, or bestiality, or movies about conspiracies that don't just debunk them in the end.

Your requests are at a fundamental contradiction with the current cinema chain model. I can say that as I am currently a jaded cinema wagie myself.
>Snacks/concessions are the primary revenue system for cinemas, not film tickets. There will never, EVER be showings prohibiting these outside of the rarest circumstances
>Ticket prices only go down if there is a systemic operational overhaul, usually born from fresh competition entering the market. The eventual equilibrium of this cyclical business model is overpriced food AND tickets, and chains going out of business due to greedy corporate overreach being massively out of line with the reality of an average customer's wallet
>Loud smelly minorities are stupid and wantonly spendthrift. The ultimate customers. They are often accompanied by hordes of hungry, stupid children that will plead with their parents to buy tons of popcorn and sweets, all in the largest size
>Adverts and trailers often run at a more or less set rate for every one of that particular theatre's showings. You can basically avoid the majority of ads by asking the crestfallen wagie behind the tills when the feature itself is due to begin
>Contrary to what the average /tv/ kino connoisseur might expect, reshowings of older classics very rarely engender the same degree of footfall as new releases. It's really only the hyper-zeitgeist definers like Star Wars or Lord of Rings that generate noteworthy momentum. From my observations alone, it's also been made apparent that these types of films rarely reap the type of traffic that are likely to splurge out on concession items

Simply put, the best way to make usage of your local two-bit kinotorium is to know never to buy any of the slop they sell, always go in the daytime on weekdays if you can (they'll be open, and no one will be there), and know how long the ads and trailers for that cinema's showings tend to be so you can avoid the majority of them.

Zoomzoom? It's partly real estate investment scheme/scam, partly outdated mode of thinking. Before online banking, online shopping/delivery, WFH and Covid, you really need these huge spaces for banks, restaurants etc. because people had to go there in person as a customer or as staff. Covid bred a whole generation of people who learned that doing everything online is much easier, faster and less hassle. Another reason for the huge real estate is that many companies build or buy them as investment speculation. The businesses that operate there are irrelevant. The building owners are hoping to sell off their real estate at a profit a few years later, taking rent payments just to pay the monthly bank loan.

Makes sense. As a kid in the 90's I'd always go to the local cinema with mates to see everything that was on and mostly did that during the week, even back then we'd sneak food and drink in because it was so much cheaper. I guess the fatass loud family with brats with diabetes that clog places at the weekend are the ones cinemas need to survive.

The weekday thing though, I don't know about cinemas near anons but the ones near me due to penny pinching all stopped doing weekday daytime showings like 15 years ago and a good chunk of them only have a fraction of their screens working on nights outside of weekends, mostly on Thursday nights.
I remember watching The Phantom Menace as a kid with the whole cinema for myself on a weekday morning, didn't make it much better but it somehow still made it more special kek.

It's a real mystery there. Maybe make movies that are good that they want to see it in the theater? If it isn't good enough to do that then people will wait the 45 days before it arrives on streaming sites. Also, rein in your budgets. You can't expect every movie to be a billion dollar hit to just break even.

Cinemas would have died out as soon as the TV was invented if it wasnt for exclusivity time. Given the choice, the vast majority of people will just watch something at home

Regularly showing something good for a decent price. In the town I used to live in the local theater had a classic film feature every week. I went almost every week and could by a ticket, popcorn, and soda for less than $20.

The problem with movies, and theaters is that they each played their end against the middle. Movie studios started chasing the global market with dumb CGI extravaganzas leading to fewer good middle brow movies. And at the same time the theatre owners just kept chasing revenues by upping the price of tickets and concessions. So now we have fewer movies which are worth watching (much less paying for), and going to the theater is so expensive that it is now an event to go.

Except as a value proposition, I don't think streaming has anything to do with it; TV was never a problem, after all.

my mom is nearly 60 and OBSESSED with TikTok. i'm glad she has something she enjoys but damn it just looks like something that would wear me out after a few minutes. My attention span is fucked bad enough from YouTube on a laptop

This is the sad but true fact. People on this board like to separate things based on generations. Saying "only boomers use fb" or "only teenagers have TikTok" when everyone of all age demographics have all the social media apps on their phone and use them constantly. My mom, who is 61, shares shit from TikTok with me.

>$300 million dollar budgets for blockbusters that now need to clear $750million just to break even
>IPs thoroughly fucked and exploited into unrecognizable slop
>Loss of understanding of product market fit. Catering to alleged audiences that don't exist
>Most new releases now hit streaming services in 30-45 days
>Pandemic turned Zoomers into shut-ins
Cinema is failing, yeah what do you think happened?

I don't know, it's too unique an experience to replicate at home so easily, unless you're rich enough for a theatre room I don't believe theaters will truly die out anytime soon. The only thing killing theaters are these DOGSHIT BACK TO BACK releases and remakes
Me and my friends were active moviegoers, but the very last thing we bothered to watch together was Minus one. We literally talk about wanting to see something all the time but that there is literally NOTHING worth watching.

>I really think that theaters will have to go back to what they were like before the 80s where small, 3 theater comfy spots
I think this tracks with the trend of big box stores where, yeah, they either create a more curated, comfy experience or they shut down. Probably why places like Alamo Drafthouse are doing well since if you're going to pay a shitload of money to see a movie you might as well get table service too. Alternatively you roll the dice on what's playing at a local theatre for half the price

There has to be a term for this, but I don't know what to call it. It's like a shared mutual destruction. Where they know their business model is not viable and they are each killing their industry, but at the same time everyone is streaming and nobody can afford to be the outlier.

There's not a single movie worth enough to spend over $40 for. We get our escapism straight from our phones or computers who needs a theater anymore

> nothing but prequels, sequels, remakes and adaptions of previous works
> nothing playing in general that attracts people en mass to the movies anymore (barbenheimer was the last one)
> dirty, shitty theaters with equally dirty and shitty people
> dei/woke killed creativity and risk taking
> movies are expensive and people are broke
> phones, internet, streaming, gaming are all either cheaper and/or immediate. even tv is dying
> gen z and gen alpha who mostly stick to the three things in the previous point
> movies come out on streaming/youtube in like a week or two of release nowadays which give people even less of a reason to go to the movies

i wonder why movies are dying
