Prologue set at Site B of the Jurassic World park introduces the D-Rex, a mutant hybrid who escapes amid the chaos of the first Jurassic World film.

A few years after Jurassic World: Dominion, most dinosaurs died out due to modern Earth climate being inhospitable, except for a range in the equator.

ScarJo is a mercenary hired by a pharmaceutical company man to accompany a retrieval team to Site B; the company needs the DNA of the three largest dinosaurs because their abnormally strong heart structure could be the cure to heart disease. ScarJo’s mother died of heart disease, but she is indifferent to the possibility of saving lives and only cares about the money. ScarJo ropes Mahershala Ali and his boating/merc team into the expedition and the company man brings along a paleontologist trained by Alan Grant.

Meanwhile, a father, his two daughters, and his one daughter’s boyfriend are sailing across the ocean when the Mosasaurus capsizes their boat. The mercenary crew hears the distress signal and Mahershala makes his crew go pick the family up because he lost his own daughter and bonds with the younger sister. A pack of Spinosaurs attacks the mercenary boat, killing the one member of the crew who was a douchebag.

The older daughter tries to use the boat radio to call a mayday, but because the mercenary crew is on an illegal expedition, the company man stops her, and she ends up going overboard and he refuses to save her. The father, his younger daughter, and the boyfriend all jump overboard to save the older daughter and stick together. ScarJo gets a sample of the Mosasaurus’ DNA, which was one of the three specimen they need.

The spinos chase the mercs to the beach, where one that was already sleeping there eats the other girl besides ScarJo. The mercs proceed inland and gets a DNA sample from a Titanosaurus. Meanwhile, the family walks through the jungle and ends up sleeping on the ground for the night; the boyfriend wanders off to take a piss and is almost ambushed by two raptors before the Mutadon, a raptor/pteranodon hybrid, picks them off. The family later finds a raft they can use to traverse the river and get to the island’s research complex. The T-Rex attacks them in the river, but they manage to survive.

Meanwhile, the mercenary crew climbs to the pterosaur nest and acquires a DNA sample from an egg, but another of the mercs gets eaten, leaving ScarJo, Ali, Company Man and Nu-Grant. They go for the same research complex, where ScarJo has arranged for a helicopter to extract them. They run into the family and she exposes Company Man for trying to kill her. The others turn on him, so he pulls a gun he stole earlier and prepares to kill the family when two mutadons fly down and attack everybody. Company Man steals the DNA samples and escapes in a jeep, leaving the others behind.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING

The helicopter arrives but doesn’t see anyone at the helipad and goes to leave, but Nu-Grant uses a flare gun to signal them. The chopper returns and promptly gets eaten out of the sky by the D-Rex we glimpsed in the opening. Ali remembers that when they were looking around the complex, he saw video on a monitor showing a boat at the docks, so he tells everyone they can take the boat to escape the island, but Company Man is already on his way there to take the boat first.

ScarJo kills one of the mutadons and the group escapes the other by going into the sewers, which lead into the docks. The D-Rex ambushes them when they exit, but Company Man drives by and distracts the D-Rex, who eats him then chases the others. Ali grabs some flares and runs into the jungle to lure the D-Rex away so the others can reach the boat. They get on the water just as the D-Rex goes for them again. Ali has somehow managed to escape the D-Rex in the jungle and lights another flare so they can pick him up.

Movie ends with ScarJo, Ali, Nu-Grant and the family boating away. Nu-Grant managed to grab the samples before Company Man was eaten and proposes selling it, but ScarJo has achieved character development and says they will release it to the public for free as they sail off into the sunset.

Surprise! Blade isn’t dead and he uses a flare to signal the crew on the boat to turn around and pick him up. They do and the film ends with ScarJo, Blade, Paleontologist, and the family all boating away as some dolphins swim by.

The deaths in this actually feel pretty brutal and somewhat significant. We at least spend a little time with most of them and half of them are good guy deaths. It feels very different from the literal background extra deaths of the last few movies. They set up Blade to die though, and should have let him actually sacrafice himself to die.

I saw it monday. A mixed bag. For context I:
Love: JP, JW
Like: Dominion for the dino action and market scene, TLW
Hate: JP3, FK

Pros of Rebirth:
>Good amount of dino kills, all of them pretty brutal, all kills are characters/people with lines instead of just background nonsense like the last couple of movies
>Edwards can frame a pretty picture
>Characters actually have some backstory
>dinos are more animals this time around, not overly human traits or overly villianous
>several water based set pieces that are all pretty excellent, film feels like a "water" entry because of it

Cons of rebirth:
>Scarjo is a shit lead. Spends 90% of the movie playing herself, some wannabe happy go lucky quipshit retard
>Half the cast is military operators that do absolutely nothing competent or cool.
