It's a story about a 1000 year old elf mage who's retracing the steps her party took 50+ years ago on their journey to kill the demon king. It has some slower paced episodes and some higher paced ones. First half of the season is pretty slow though. I can see many people dropping it there which in my opinion is a mistake.

I recently got turned off anime by Made in Abyss as I mentioned above, (which is quite funny in retrospect and something the fans would make fun of me for).

I thought it was some kind of childlike adventure show with cool worldbuilding, turned out to be a paedo-weeb-torture fantasy as is all the shit these shut-in faggots love. Funny enough I was coming down with the flu so as this show became more and more deranged I was getting sicker and sicker. Pretty kino confusion experience overall but fuck that anime I can't watch that.

The first half IS the show, if they don't like it they can fuck off. In fact the majority of critcism is specifically about the second half being too much like other anime, tournament arc or whatever. I disagree and think the second half has some great moments but if Frieren can only keep your attention when there's pew pew action there's plenty of other anime for that

yeah cowboy bebop just wasn't that exciting or interesting to me when i gave it a shot and just all felt kind of banal and trite. felt like a lot of spectacle for the sake of spectacle with very little substance, which is one of the main, recurring issues for me with anime. i also prefer animation films over series regardless of it being anime or not.

You're not wrong. That sort of slice of life adventure is a big part of the show but I felt that it was a bit front loaded with that. I hadn't grown to care about Frieren or her new companions to really enjoy those early episodes but once I got further in I started to care and as a result I could appreciate the content of the earlier episodes.
