Dude, both movies are obvious neo-con, New American Century propaganda.
They were made during America's brief imperialist phase, when they invaded Iraq, and Iran (Persia, geddit?) was next in their crosshairs.

imo it's the Back to the Future Two equivelant. Bigger, brasher, using the momentum of the previous installment. But it's still inferior because it's predecesor is perfect. 300 is perfect. Back to the Future is perfect. And both of these movies work perfectly fine as stand alone features. Their respective sequels both build on the first installments, and both raise the scope, but as movies they just fall short.

I'm not saying the sequel to 300 is bad but in no way does it stack up to the original. Also the lead just cannot compete with Gerard Butler.

How does Greece defending itself against the Persian Empire in any way support imperialism and invasions? You realise the invaders were the bad guys in 300, right? Sparta was literally a tiny city-state standing up to an empire

That’s only because the battle would be a source of Spartan state propaganda for centuries. Half the details were likely made up ad-hoc to aid their city-state’s image internationally.

Irrelevant. The neo-cons thought they could convert Muslims into bien-pensant democratic citizens. The movies were about stirring up a public appetite for war against Iran.

Kinda less cool of a retort when you remember that the Macedonians then marched into Greece and conquered them.

It's basically in the category of

The vast majority of people have no idea that Persia even has a connection to what is now Iran. I highly doubt that connection was made in the minds of the vast majority of movie goers.

I don't give a shit what country the movie was made in. And I don't think the political context of the times matters. Even if you are correct in saying this was pro invasion propaganda, which I doubt, the movie has outlived it's era. It is about Greeks, Europeans, defending themselves against brown, muslim hoardes. How is that not based? It is literally anti-rapefugee propaganda. Proud, warrior Europeans repelling an army of durka-durka browns from taking over our land. Any attempt to convince me that is not a based premise only convinces me that you are a kike or an anti-White faggot of some description.

You have the conspiratorial worldview, absolutely every fact will be bent towards your bizarre preconceived conclusion. Never mind that you have demonstrated not knowing what you are talking about, it is inconceivable to you that he conjunction of the rise of historical action movies (Gladiator, Troy, etc) comic book adaptations (Spider-Man, X-Men, etc) in the years leading up to 300 might have indicated there was a ready market for such a thing. I know you’ll have a ready “explanation.” I won’t bother reading your reply so don’t bother replying.

Brown hoardes invading Europe is an eternal issue. Whether it is rapefugees or invading armies. The point is, see the wider message of the movie. Maybe it served as a bit of propaganda in pointless invasions into the middle east, a single bit in a torrent of propaganda. But the story is based on a real invasion against Europe. The message that will never be dated is one that is against that invasion. It doesn't matter whether that is armies, migrants or "refugees". The movie is based. A movie that is explicitely about Europeans repelling a brown, muslim invasion cannot be anything but based.

>I won’t bother reading your reply so don’t bother replying.
Then I guess you're out of luck, faggot.
You clearly have no memory of the propaganda offensive that preceded the invasion of Iraq. Nor of the stated intentions of the Project for a New American Century, which so influenced the administration of George W Bush. The project was about systematically destroying non-democratic regimes and installing puppet governments loyal to the US. This project failed at the first hurdle with the Iraq debacle, but the plan was to move on to Iran afterwards. This was all in accord with Israeli plans to first destroy the Iraqi army (the biggest Islamic military force at the time), and then smash the Iranian regime, which had sworn to destroy Israel.
What, have you still got your fingers in your ears? Guess that means you concede defeat. Frankly. I thought you'd put up more of a fight.
Fucking clueless zoomers, I swear ...
