>Of the 240 executives polled, 55 percent believe that the “traditional movie-going” experience will no longer be a viable business model sometime within the next two decades. Interestingly, it was the executives working in sales, distribution and production who held the most pessimistic views on cinema’s future. Those working in theatrical exhibition, such as cinema operators, were generally more optimistic. Worryingly, though, executives who work solely in theatrical exhibition were the largest proportion of voters to state that their side of the business would last ‘under five years.’

I saw an 85in tv for under $600 the other day (they’ll only get cheaper). A movie I saw opening weekend was on VOD two weeks later. I have a huge backlog of movies and shows (and books and games) to keep me entertained for ages.

It’s about sitting in a dark room with people with no at home no distractions and having a shared experience. Watching movies at home will never be the same. Someone knocks on the door, someone texts, the laundry machine is going, the dog starts barking at something, other people walk by, there’s a million distractions at home and your little 60 inch Tv with shitty “surround sound” will never be better than a 30 foot screen with bass that makes the seats rumble.

This. It's too bad they outlawed smoking in theaters, it really added something. I saw Ghostbusters in 1984 and one thing I recall from the showing was all the smoke. That enhanced the atmosphere of the entire thing. Spooky scenes welcome fog. New York City back in the early 80s (and now) was a smokey shithole, so it works.

In 2000s:
- Release kino in cheap cinema.
- After 6 months, blockbuster (DVD).
- After 12 months, cable tv.
- After 24 months, open tv.
- After 48 months, fucking collector's edition.
- No internet to compete.

IN 2010:
- Release flick in cinema, with lame 3D for cashgrab.
- After 6 months, release it in Netflix for cheap.
- Piracy goes to lowest levels ever (but you can still buy that Bluray for cheap).

IN 2025:
- Release ESG-DEI slop in expensive cinema after covid.
- After 3-4 weeks, release it in one of multiple streaming services.
- BDs are dying, some shows will never see a physical copy.
- Internet is the new tv.
- Normies got mad, non-retards pirate again.

2045? REALLY?
SHIT IS ALREADY DEAD IN 2025.

Basically this. Its the THEATER experience (big screen, 7.1 sound, good chair, no distraction).
However, zoomers dont see it and gen alpha is lost. 300.000.000 budget movies will cease in the future: it will be 25-50 million slops made by netflix commite and animated by pajeets.

Future is grim.

They do though, this year alone I've seen:

>Zodiac
>Se7en
>Gone Girl
>The Social Network
>Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
>Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
>Pretty Woman
>Casablanca
>The Big Lebowski
>Erin Brockovich
>John Wick
>Terminator 2: Judgment Day
>Bad Boys
>Inception
>Babe
>Final Destination
>The Grand Budapest Hotel
>28 Days Later
>28 Weeks Later

And tickets for all of them were only £5, though I paid nothing because Cineworld do a membership for £16.99 a month which allows you to see as many films as you want for free. I've seen 100 films so far this year and paid £101.94, so just over a quid per film. Every chain is doing something like this and it's absurd that more people aren't taking advantage of it while you still can.

Look at how it is now

>wait until a specific time for the film you want to see to show
>pay exorbitant ticket price
>might even have to pay for parking
>exorbitant snack prices
>10 minutes of ads before the flick even starts
>crying baby, people on their phones, yammering nogs

Or you can wait like 2 weeks to a month and watch it in the comfort of your own home on a plethora of different streaming services. At some point every movie is going to have a simultaneous online and in theater release. Only the diehard fans of the theater experience will go. Everyone else will chill at home and enjoy it how they want with no distractions. You cannot compete with the ability to pause the film and go take a piss, get food, make a call or anything else you need to do. Convenience is king, and theaters are no longer convenient. They'll go the way of the drive-in

Going to the theaters to watch a new movie is no longer a must see event, you are no longer excluded from the conversation, given how much competition for entertainment exists, the lifespan of movies in the audience is super short now, remember the chicken jockey shit? I feel bad for the theater chains. It's not their fault Hollywood went insane with DEI, commie union strikes from activist hacks, IP/sequel obsession and then they bowed down to the corpo/techbro streaming takeover.
Hollywood is relentlessly retarded and did this to themselves. They should've just kept buying spec scripts from white guys like the 90s.

Theaters are doing fine in the rest of the world, especially in China/Japan/Korea/etc.. Even during the Iran-Israel war there were videos of Tel Aviv theaters being more packed than you'd see in a downtown LA theater for Mission Impossible Final Reckoning (Tom Cruise is a popular draw over there).

US theaters are in the shitter because:

1.) Lack of audience interest in movies being released

2.) The massive cost of going to the theater, getting snacks, etc.. If you're a family of 4 it will cost you over $100, for a mediocre to shitty movie no less. This really isn't the case in the rest of the world where things are more affordable.

3.) Social disorder and crime. US theaters are full of nigs and muslims and mehecan migrants causing a mess, attacking people, screaming, getting into fights, etc..

4.) American millennials/zoomies are just conditioned to sit inside their prefabricated chinese plywood houses all day and browse tiktok/youtube shorts on their phones and not go outside anymore. They simply don't care about anything else. Americans of this demographic don't work, play sports, have relationships, anything. It's just tiktok and youtube shorts while living off their parents or government benefits.

Nowadays I only go when they're showing old movies. I saw the LOTR trilogy in theaters awhile back. Some other movies I recently saw in theaters include the Mummy with Brandon Frasier, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, the 90s Batman movies, the Christian Bale Batman movies, etc etc.

sad but inevitable, hopefully movies are still made despite the theatrical exhibition being more of a niche thing. i just think cinema is too important to disappear

Yeah same. Banning it made all the coolest people revert back to their lairs. Seriously, once the ban was enacted, everyone said the same thing:
>Where'd all the cool people go?
Home! To their own bars. That's what a lot of Boomers are doing, not sure about Gen X or Millies.

>here's the kicker my parents are both cancer doctors i know whats awaiting me i think i just have a death wish

This is why I'm building my own theater and not some small room with a screen and some speakers, I'm talking about dedicating an entire basement space for a theater. I'm gonna help keep the theatre flame alive. After every film, I will make a note of what played.
There will always be my theatre (in the near future) that will allow smoking and drinking (withing reason). I'm serious. Even got arcade games to that part will be easy.

That's about HALF of the shitty events that is the average modern theater experience. I go maybe once a year and every time, for over a decade, it just serves as a reminder that it's gone to shit.
