Honestly, the creators of the movie aimed way too high — and now they’ve got a hell of a lot to answer for.

Where do the infected sleep?

Do they sleep cuddled together to stay warm? (Because they don't make fires, and in winter they'd all freeze to death.)

How do they take care of their children? Raising a kid is insanely hard work — a mother of the infected would need patience, not all that twitchiness and constant rage. She’d also need a maternal instinct strong enough not to lose her child. (Although the movie hints that at least Alpha has some kind of paternal instinct.)

If an infected person’s child is not infected… does that mean there are just regular, uninfected-but-crazy people among the infected? And what if the child gets bitten by their mother or a fellow infected during playtime — do they turn into an infected too? Would they then have to relearn everything from scratch to fit back into the pack?
What the hell is that?!

In the end, this movie only works if you say, "Oh come on, don’t think too hard, it’s just a movie."
But if you actually start asking questions, the whole worldbuilding starts falling apart — because once you introduce a concept like a community of the infected, you need to really think it through. Otherwise, people will ask questions...

No the writer needed the father out of the story so that it could be about the mother. I didn't misunderstand anything. there was no indication of the son forgiving his father nor did anything imply that the father did everything for their family his entire life. If his father was dead and It was some village leader/trainer of the men in the camp the story wouldn't have changed, because it was about the mother.

Spike should have been about 14 years old, a sociopath, and killed his mother for being a delusional loon, and his dad has to get rid of him old yeller style by taking him out to the mainland and leaving him there. The movie would play out somewhat the same as the first part except spike would just stare at the zombies and watch his dad kill them with fascination, rather than incompetence. Then the rest of the movie would be him having to deal with the alphas, the swedewin and trying to get back home out of revenge, then coming to love being on the mainland so he fucks off.
