i just finished watching the wire, i liked it. took me a bit of time to fully enjoy it but i liked all the seasons and its one of the shows in my top #5, just really don't have a lot to say that hasen't been said before.

Jimmy McNulty has the same traits as House—brilliant, self-destructive, insubordinate—but he's a much better character because the series is less reliant on gimmicks and more realistic, with superiors constantly berating him rather than enabling him.

NTA but I partially agree. S2 is easily the most boring for me (it's still watchable but compared to others it's weak).
S5... people hate the fake serial killer plot, I actually don't, I think it's enjoyable to see McNulty pull some completely insane shit and get promptly caught. The journos are bad, yeah, Simon was clearly self-inserting into Gus and the latina reporter.
I kinda wish they did a season focused on prisons and a season focused on medical examiners.
I also kinda wish they didn't give Bubble that much screentime, his plotline smells way too oscar-baity.
