I have a similar feeling towarda breakimg bad. When it first came out everyone was tripping over themselves to tell me how good it was. I tried watching it and couldnt make it past the first season. Theb for YEARS people kept bitching about how good it was and how I should try it again and how it got better. I watched THE WHOLE FUCKING SHOW and it never got better. That shit is boring, predictable trash.

Y'know, did you pay attention to the movie? Like, were you watching it? Something put you in a bad mood? Wife said the same thing but she was looking at the cat 1/4 of the time.
>what is happening

this. though its a fascinating movie because scene to scene, its holds your attention, I have to say that at the end of it, what did I really even watch?

a guy who is kind of lonely I guess but he also just kinda works and seems bored by his job and he tries to date but he's kinda creepy and he helps some young prostitute and he's also sort of going crazy and is getting semi political but not really but he's kind of a hero at the end and all of this gets handwaved because of lines about travis being a contradiction or something, but I feel like the film almost has too many threads

it needed to pick which of these it wanted to be

>"i need to clean up this city from blacks" film (the original script was more like this I think)

>"Im going crazy so im going after palatine that is the only way ill gain notoriety"

>"I hate women and they confuse me so im lashing out"

I dont like that it tries to be all of these and more, simultaneously. the film is not dense, its confused, and being a commentary about decaying modern society and how it effects the individual does not excuse it from being confused and bloated

Saving private ryan has to be one of the most overrated fucking movies ever. I bet most people canโ€™t remember anything past the beach landing scene besides that one scene with the knife fight or the scene where Tom Hanks shoots a tank with a pistol. Probably canโ€™t even remember the real names of most of the characters.

The cable TV shows that Spielberg produced after that like Band of Brothers and The Pacific are way fucking better than that shitty movie.

I mean the plot is generic, now, but you have to also see it through the lenses when it was released.
WWII movies weren't that fucking visceral before Saving Private Ryan. The Omaha beach scene was fucking violent. It wasn't particularly heoric-you got the Americans throwing up on the way in, screaming for help in pools of their own blood, the good guys just executing the surrending Germans, the brutal death scenes (not just the stabbing, the medic dying, Vin Diesel dying, etc).
Hollywood wasn't treating WWII that way before SPR. That's why it's gets the reputation it has

Honestly? La Haine
I get what it's representing, partly because it reminded me of me and my friends when we were growing up, but other than that the movie is just kind of boring.
I get that it's supposed to be more of a "day in the life" more than anything but that doesn't mean I have to snore to get through it.

Also, Escape from Alcatraz. I feel like you could've cut half the scenes out from that movie and it still would've been exactly the same.
