most overrated polis desu. not only did they fail to produce any piece of culture worth remembering due to sole focus on warfare - they were lackluster at best at that, too

Spartans invented the dual ruler concept long before the Romans thought up consuls.

Did you miss how the entire narration was the one-eyed guy trying to hype up the army for the audience, to convince them to go to war?

I'm mostly just angry that the focus on Spartans in public consciousness made the devs of Age of Empires think that Greeks don't have archers, even though the Athenians were famous for having standing archery regiments in addition to their phalanxes and navy.

The Spartans believed their formation and tactics were far superior and saw no need for change or improvisation. During battle, their best soldiers were always placed on the right flank, typically in a formation 12 ranks deep.
To counter this, the Thebans positioned their best soldiers on their left flank and made their ranks twice as deep as those of the Spartans. As a result, the Thebans mostly won.
But, the Spartans would rather face defeat than alter their traditional formation, they were deeply caught up in their own bullshit.
