The Prequel Trilogy should absolutely have The Clone Wars in there at minimum. I'd argue a LOT of the SW video games during the 00s-20s should be in there somewhere too. Just because Disney bought the trashfire doesn't mean it wasn't already burning itself out beforehand.

You know what the real issue is? Millennials are the first generation not to be shamed outwardly for not growing up.
Previous generations, yes even the boomers and older gen x, hit a certain age and had to put toys and bullshit down and work on their homes/cars/etc. Craftmanship replaced toys and other bs. That's why older homes the house is like 99% the wife's bullshit everywhere but the shelves they're on the husband is proud of putting up.

Now? Millenials and Alphas are in their 20s-40s having kids and still watching nerd bullshit, playing video games, doing kid shit. So what does a kid naturally do? Associate those things (SW, Capeshit, Funkopops) with old people.

Both Star Wars and Star Trek choked to death on Member Berries. They were so obsessed with pandering to old fans, it completely isolated potential new ones. Take Ahsoka for example. How many movies, TV shows, comics, etc did you need to be on top of to follow the plot of that show? Younger generations view both franchises as something for their parents and grandparents.

Whether you like or hate the prequels, you can't deny that KIDS loved them when they came out. It was the older generation that felt alienated that the target audience of those films didn't scale up with them.

The Sequels don't have that. Not even kids like them. Star Wars is dead.

Zoomers and Alphies do not have the attention span for old school Star Trek. The shows aren’t even slow paced. But they expect you to follow one or two stories instead of six. Kids do not want a story that lingers more than five minutes. Think of how many TikToks and InstaGram reels they could watch in the span of one episode.

The filler is packaged differently. Instead of an episode watching minor characters solve a low stakes problem, it’s two characters having a 10 minute conversation full of pauses and long takes. The latest season of Severance was 70% filler.

Yeah, that's bullshit. SW and Indiana Jones (not to mention Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, and what have you) were already things that were well liked by adults, even in the 90's.
also Boomers and Gen Xers have their own specific manchild-isms, like insisting that mediocre swill like The A Team or Knightrider were actually really good.

The "filler" was often the good stuff in the 90's. Like people watched X-Files for the over-arching plot, sure, but maybe even more so, they watched it for the stand alone episodes. Those were the funny or quirky ones.

the modern star wars audience who still watch disney wars shit consists of:

40% antifans who hate watch it to make fun of it and talk about how stupid it is

30% fat retarded millenials with peter-pan syndrome who never grew up and are deathly afraid of even admitting 'its not that good' because they dont want to be called racist/sexist/bigot

20% pseudo fans who like to talk about [current thing] on social media because they have aspirations of being a 'youtuber' one day so thjey want to stay 'in the loop' on all the stupid bullshit commercialized slop coming out

10% people with brain damage and/or other severe mental disabilities who can barely comprehend what they are watching.

and all these groups are shrinking.

>Well yeah part of the reason they got young guys in the past was because of a steady stream of video games.
yeah george lucas proved yet again he was a genius when he created lucas arts and started making in-house star wars video games almost every year. any time a new star wars video game out it was an immediate top 10 best seller and almost all of the lucas arts games are still beloved today. if i had to list my top 20 favorite video games of all time at least 1/4 of that list would just be star wars games. so it really is a tragedy how disney abandoned/shut down lucas arts and licensed the rights out to EA and phone game developers. just another example of disney killing the golden goose that was star wars.
>Even those are aimed at women now, see Star Wars: Outlaws.
honestly i would say that game - and disney nu wars whole girl-power shtick isnt even aimed at women. women dont like that shit. women rejected it too. princess leia and padme from george's star wars are much more beloved by women and girls - even today. no one gives/ever gave a shit about Rey Palpatine/Rey Skywalker. no one gives a shita bout any of these disney wars female characters. women, girls. men, boys. no one gives a SHIT about Rey. more women fanboyed Kylo Ren - the cutout emo/angsty school shooter character than they did for Rey. THINK about that.

if you want to say disney's female centered star wars was 'aimed' at anyone, it was aimed not at attracting women into the franchise, but instead, 'aimed' at men, but as an aimed rejection, not invitation. the whole design philosophy underlying disney star wars seems more about rejecting the existing, male audience than it was ever/will ever be about inviting in the female audience.

and that is why star wars is failing and no one cares about it anymore. because it wasnt made FOR anyone. it was made AGAINST a specific demographic(young males)

I saw episode 4 when I was 7. It was fucken great. Empire strikes back is a classic and it hit when I was 10, I think.

By return of the jedi I was a bit over it. Cool action but the drama was meh and the woks were stupid.

Everything after that was just Operation Money Suck. Even lucas wanted to do animation and video games, and by the 90s I had no interest in star wars.

Seeing the Acolyte haplessly trying to pander, yuk. My daughter thought Rey was boring. There shouldn't BE 'generations' of star wars fans. It and Indiana Jones were already re-presentations of things from decades earlier.
My parents were boomers, I'm gen x. Star wars belongs in the trash. Studios need to be hoodwinked into giving some new talent a chance to rehash the shit they liked as a kid.

Newer generations are not interested in rehashing their childhood on film, film is a dying medium. For Millennials the rehashing happened in the 2010s with video games, all the retro-styled Metroidvanias were Millennials rehashing their youth with video games. With Gen Z I have no idea what it is or will be. Probably some social media thing, it's probably already happening and I don't know about it.

I'm 38 and saw the original trilogy on tv, when I was a little kid I thought they were low budget B movies with a nonsense albeit somewhat convoluted plot and laughable special effects (Jurassic Park was my point of reference), never took the time to watch them from beginning to end but caught parts thereof. Naturally, I liked the swords and Darth Vader, despite the dueling being consistently lame, and that was pretty much it, never gave it a second thought.

It was the prequels what really got me into Star Wars, the hype surrounding certainly helped pique my interest. I still enjoyed cool sabers and characters like Maul. I wanted to see less Anakin and more Obi-Wan in the first one, although the N64 podracing game was a superb tie-in. I thought Keira looked more queenly that Natalie (pic related). Duel of Fates is a legendary soundtrack, probably one of the first things I downloaded from the internet.

The second one had yet another cool new saber, more new cool characters and old ones that got cooler. I was already a teen, so I was becoming more interested in the lore and read fan theories about Sifo Dyas, Jar Jar, Yaddle, Palpatine (lol), etc. However it was not something I'd talk about in school. That changed with the Tartakovsky cartoon, everyone saw it on Cartoon Network. That was what got me and my friends really hyped for the third one.

The third one I was expecting, my friends and I bought tickets the day after the premiere (no online sale, no numbered seats), I wore my glow-in-the-dark star wars t-shirt. It was everything that was promised, or at least what we all wanted to see, the best duel ever with an equally epic soundtrack, the story was complete.

I've been closely following Feloni's work since Clone Wars, only skipping the Mandalorian because of Pedro even before the Gina controversy, and Boba because I never cared much for him. I think the Bad Batch is peak storytelling, a sort of Rey done right.

Star Wars is so laundered into the mainstream its a shame, because it really is incredible.

If you sit down and watch the original trilogy while trying to block out your preconceptions, to view it as just a movie from the 70s, its actually insane. The aesthetic of it is so unique and detailed and perfectly realised, the design of all the ships, the technology, the characters. If you can kind of put yourself in the persepctive of someone its genuinely new to its an overwhelming, dominating, humbling artistic onslaught. Every single scene, every frame, looks so interesting. So many new, unique looking things are introduced so frequently. The Star Destroyer is in the very first shot. Vader is introduced like, a minute or two later. Imagine sitting down and watching it with no expectations and seeing two designs that iconic that quickly for the first time. A random shot of the docking bay on the side of the ship is worth pausing and looking at finer details-a lot of the time what's called "greebling" isn't just random greebling, they really craft it with care and to match and accentuate the design of the ship.

Really sit down and try watching it and imagine everything in it being new to you, the way even relatively minor characters look so novel and creatively well judged if you're not already familiar with them

The original trilogy is so overrated it makes it underrated. Because everyone knows it so well that its impossible for them to actually see it.

The film industry should be the exact opposite of what it is. With the success of star wars, the industry should have become obsessed with new, completely unexpected movies to bowl people over, surprise and captivate them like Star Wars did. Instead the lesson learned was make infinite star wars.

It was because of several things.

Timothy Zahn Trilogy: Got people interested in new Star Wars stuff through novels. This was the first new Star Wars story in a long time and people liked it.
Dark Empire: Got people interested in the new Star Wars comics. Yes people have legit criticisms about this and Rise of Skywalker practically made a worse version of this story, but the interest was there.
The Games: Super Nintendo released three Super Star Wars games covering the entire original trilogy from 1992-1994. Then there was X-Wing and Rebel Assault in 1993 for the PC/Mac. Dark Forces in 1995.

Then >>212037366 was released in 1995 with a new toyline to follow, along with Shadows of the Empire, which was a book taking place between ESB and ROTJ

THEN the Special Editions in 1997.

Lucas handled getting younger generations into Star Wars better than Disney ever could.

Depends on what you mean. Serialized plots weren't the focus of most TV shows; they were episodic by design. Even shows that became famous for ongoing plots like Buffy juggled those plots with episodic stories and often limited those ongoing plots to a single season.

Even the X-Files mytharc is more episodic than people remember.

All of this so, so much^

Anon, STAR WARS 1977 is so good that it's a one and done. It doesn't need sequels and whenever I see it, unless I feel in the mood to think of The Empire Strikes Back, I don't think of The Empire Strikes Back. Come to think of it, I usually feel that STAR WARS is a one and done by its conclusion. It's a perfect Flash Gordon remake that has other cinematic roots, yet it manages to be its own thing too. Darth Vader has a twirling mustache under that mask, you just know it. The ending of Vader getting away in his TIE Fighter at the end is just so iconic, just as much as any western hero or villain riding off into the sunset, or making an escape.
Then at the final scene, we the audience can just feel that they won not only the day, but they're going to win their civil war, and we didn't need it spelled out. Having said all that, I love Empire and Jedi, but they aren't self-contained as the original is.

Why is learning about a bunch of different things in a short time through 30 second videos somehow inferior to solely obsessing over Star Wars 24/7?
If I took a zoomer who had been on tiktok all day and asked him about Israel and Iran he would give me at least a functional synopsis of the situation from watching little news clips embedded within his cat videos. If I asked a Gen X Star Wars fan, he would launch into some cringe analogy of how Israel is like the Empire and the Iranians were the Tusken warriors riding their banthas into battle and I would want to punch him immediately.

It IS high art. Think on that one because I'm deadly serious.

No, I thought hard on that one. Here's why you're wrong: it's a film. For a film to lodge itself into my consciousness to the degree it has, given how varied my life has been thus far, says more for the film that it says for me.
.
If that doesn't impress you in the slightest, then consider that the first film had to much artistry put into it, so much thought, and it was done so well that it's breathtakingly convincing as to become sublime. Then consider John Williams's genius soundtrack puts it over the top. How can you not understand that such a feature length film is not a work of high art?

There's loads of stuff left out such as the series around the OT, from the holiday special, to the ewok movies and ewok tv shows. Then there's the prequels which is missing loads of TV stuff too. On top of that there are the books which formed the backbone of star wars extra material for decades, and video games, of which there are many that flesh out the lore.

They didn't have video games. And they held on to their music if it wasn't super embarrassing. Popular books were definitely held on to. And American comic book heroes are literal a product of adult nostalgia from the 50s-80s.

Blame Red Letter Media, especially Mike Stoklasa.

They brainwashed the masses into hating the Prequel trilogy, convinced Disney to hire JJ Abrams, shilled the Sequel trilogy and the ruining of Luke, and ruined Star Wars.

Mike Stoklasa should be tortured slowly then put feet first through a wood chipper.

Target audience isn't an issue.
OT and PT had captivating and memorable characters that people of all ages fell in love with and thus bought the merchandise and shit.
What characters did NuWars create? Grogu and that's it. The rest are the characters no one gives a shit about.
Root of the problem is that Disney can't create a good stories and good characters to save their life. Lucas' gift and understanding of what makes characters stick out is underappreciated and underrated.

Whether or not it's art is arguable, as is the definition of art itself. I think it has cemented its place in history though. Not a lot of people go back and read Brothers Grimm fairytales, but their influence on subsequent fiction is undeniable. I think the same thing will happen with Star Wars, in 50 years maybe it will not be a marketable IP anymore, but to anyone with an interest in history the OT will remain a reference and will be studied as relevant cultural artifact. That's of course assuming society doesn't devolve into complete AI skibidi toilet brainrot augmented reality idiocracy and history is still valued.

Now there I agree with you because by that time Gen X will be dead or about to die. For Boomers, their parents, and Gen X, The Wizard of Oz was an event for the whole country, same with Star Wars, but now it will become more like Casablanca. It will be remembered in 50 years, but society probably won't feel it like it did and it will seem more quaint than mindblowing I suspect by that time.

Star Wars is made for people who never even grew up with star wars. Not gen Z or younger. It's millennials who never watched star wars when they were kids. I'm not even joking you. I'm a mid 30s millennial and never once have I met anyone my age or younger who is into Star Wars anymore except one person. The person who used to make fun of star wars and never watched it despite being my age throughout the entire prequels. He thought it was nerdy shit. Now fastforward to modern times he's a super progressive liberal and he eats disney wars up hook line and sinker. Nobody else cares about star wars in my experience. Not generations older than me. Sure, but high art is usually used to refer to things like the Mona Lisa. Do (you) personally find that painting enthralling or does it capture your imagination? I know personally it doesn't. I can recognize its technical quality, and I get the intellectual argument of
>why is she smiling? this truly captures the imagination!
But to me it's just a painting.
I've also seen shitty videos that have 2 views on Youtube that would be considered the furthest from high art and that I could say have "enthralled me in entertained enjoyment".

Yet I would agree that the Mona Lisa is high art, because it's a part of art history and is culturally relevant. To me that's all high art means. I don't even think it's as relevant a distinction as it once was. I think we'll see a time, in the horrible dystopian future we're hurtling towards, where memes and AI art will be considered "high art", because they shaped their time.

>Sure, but high art is usually used to refer to things like the Mona Lisa.
I know. Don't you see how odd it is to regard the Mona Lisa as high art, but not Star Wars (1977)? The Mona Lisa is far less than SW in my opinion, but I'd agree that it's highly debatable as to which piece of art has touched people's lives more.

>Yet I would agree that the Mona Lisa is high art, because it's a part of art history and is culturally relevant.

Like Star Wars? Like it or not, people are comparing contemporary political figures to SW characters.

No. It went under because Mitt Romney wanted more millions. Look into that one.

Who is the audience for Teletubbies these days?

It's men. Grown men. Who should be having children. The reason White birth rates are dropping!

If you disagree, you are a FAGGOT and a NIGGER.

Disney has absolutely shit the fucking bed when it comes to propping up the ST of Star Wars. The prequel trilogy sucked, but it provided an amazing foundation for TV shows, video games, etc. The fuck does the sequel trilogy have? Andor is OT, and even the Mandalorian is bridging OT/ST, so it relies heavily on the former.
Oh, I'm sorry, did they realize they made the ST too fucking boring, by making all the vehicles just scaled up OT stuff, with a coloured stripe on it? Oh, oh, and rehashing the same conflict from the OT, just with slightly different names? WHOOPSIE DAISY, you took a property that made a ton of money off of merchandising, and played it too safe, leading to having an incredibly boring era.

I like how the ST defenders say that's all acceptable because in real life F-15 and F-16s are similar.

Nigga I know a community of like 1,000 plus teenagers/young adult autists who regularly build massive historical cities and fight realistic wars over them in minecraft. They have a dedicated team of niggas who make pluggins that simulate real firearms, artillery, barbed wire, tanks you name it and have complex diplomacy and skirmishes. They call it “minecraft geopol” or some shit and it’s spearheaded by some come fiend esoteric fascist greek guy who’s the son of some business magnate who used to play on a similar, smaller community that was born out of /int/ 10 years ago.

Minecraft is fucking INSANE when you dig into it. And zoomers are WAAAAAAAAAY more creative than any generation alive today you have no idea.

What is even fun about the Star Wars movies? They all just feel preachy. What is there even to like about new Star Wars that would even resonate with kids? It's mostly just corporate, safe by the numbers writing. At least the prequels are meme kino, the new ones are so dull they only have maybe two memes, no one cares about them.

star wars might have been cool back in the 70s. there was literally nothing else like it back then. now? just open up the internet. there are hundreds of possible interests out there. are they "better" than star wars? who knows. your nostalgia coulded boomer mind perhaps cannot comprehend that there is media to compete against star wars nowdays and SW cannot win anymore
>t. like the first 6 star wars movies and rogue one
