idk if it's the original premise, but there is a i believe a manga of Battle Royale. i have only ever seen the movie. a bunch of japanese kids get put on an island and subjected to last-man-standing deathmatch. i bought it because japanese girls in school skirts; it's actually a great movie on the merits.
that was a bit of dissembling, i can't think of an anime with this exact premise, but anime has lots of nihilistic shit, especially older anime. it's possible.
