Not at all. There's more money in it now than ever before thanks to podcasts and crowd work clips. So many people go to see shows. If you get to the headlining level, you're set off ticket sales alone. If you have a successful pod, even better. Being able to self produce a special, gain a bigger audience, and sell more tickets works well.
What is dead are the Hollywood career prospects. Back in the day comedians used to get movie deals and shows because of their fame. The comedy movie is dead and social media has diluted traditional stardom, so that doesn't happen anymore.

This board has a hatred for standup which is fine but I’ve found that I can name literally anyone and there’s going to be some response talking shit. It’s very alive, not that there’s a lot of good acts, but most people that post here don’t have the stones to go do a minute or 2 at an open mic in their city.
I do sometimes, I’m not good but I’ve made people laugh and that’s all I care about.
