This film was a true trip, what was it like watching it in the theater?

I can't imagine parents were happy about the amount of kids that much have been scarred for life from pic-related,the naked yellow & blue statues were hilarious wonder how they got that passed the ESRB?

I think more kids were scarred by Artax the Horse dying. The tits on the sphinxes are why it was rated PG in America instead of G.

We cried at the swamp part, got scared by many, many things in the film, but the dragon and the ending made it all ok. Best German film ever.
It felt triumphant seeing the boy on his dragon bullying the bullies at the end.

Saw that back then.

The 80s were something different. Dramatic stuff was present in kids shows and changed a generation.
If you want a trauma for life, watch Niklaas (Dog of Flanders) about a poor kid that wants to become a painter and ends up losing everyone and dies in the end on the streets.

This anon is understating it. It's a topic all of its own it's so deep. The late 70s and early 80s were INSANE. Fun and free, but insane. Everything was harsh, even if it was comfy. A weird dynamic.

I mean about what op's talking about. scary monsters in kids movies and naked statues. Parents, maybe I should have specified parents, parents didn't give a shit.

Remember the knight on the horse who tries to pass? His face was melted or something. Search engines dislike it.

It was a better time. Kids weren't treated like fragile little pussies. Seeing a scary monster or a tit shot wouldn't harm them permanently.
