PURE BLOCKBUSTER KINO

Is it a formulaic sports movie? Yes. Does it execute the formula to perfection? Hell yeah.

I thought the movie was gonna end with Sonny winning the race but having permanently damaged his spine and unable to stand up to celebrate.
For some reason he doesn't stand at the final pitstop before the race to the finish which made me think that.

They were hinting at that with his vision blurring. I don't think you're that far off. With how bad his back was feeling, he probably wouldn't be able to get back in that car and race again if he got out.

I agree. We never see any meaningful interactions with the other drivers or even know who they are. Makes the whole competition aspect seem a bit shallow.

The use of real drivers and team principals is my only real complaint with the film. There wasn't much opportunity to have conflict with the other teams because you wouldn't be able to get them on set enough. It may also hurt how the film ages.

Yeah this is what I was thinking. Like there wasn't an actual villain or main competitor that most of these movies have. Also the development of the one pit stop girl was weird. It felt like she'd have this arc of like learning to be more confident but she messes up once early in the movie, Pitt tells her to not be so hard on herself, and then she never makes a mistake again. Same for Pitt honestly, he's an asshole only driving for himself at the beginning, the Scottish love interest tells him to be a team player and then instantly for the rest of the movie he's this perfect captain even being completely exonerated from the black dude getting in an accident.

They basically try to have their cake and eat it too, because he basically does that, because there's the part at the end where only one of them can progress and so Pitt bites the bullet and sacrifices himself to make an opening for the kid and it's treated as this cool sacrifice he did and he's like "go get 'em kiddo" and then the black guy is winning for a bit but both him and the #2 racer spin out with each other and so Pitt can still get his victory

Not OP but I specifically went to see this because I saw this trailer in the theaters
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yh9BPUBbbQ
I never saw Top Gun Maverick in the theaters and I really liked that so I figured I gotta see this. Maverick was a better movie but this was still pretty good. Brad Pitt was great. The other guy not so much. The sound and cinematography of the action is good but the trailer made it seem cooler than it ended up feeling in the movie. Also jets are just cooler than cars so in that sense I guess it was never going to feel as good to me. But I'm assuming the people who are into the Formula cars will love this.

Well, the movie titled "F1" definitely was about F1.
I was expecting a tender love scene between Pitt and Condon in a tastefully-lit hotel room while Rosé sings a lovely melody and Condon exposes a side boob, but they were too busy showing us boring-ass F1 races.

Breaking News: F1 and Top Gun Maverick director Joseph Kosinski has confirmed he will direct Days of Thunder 2 with Based Cruise facing off against F1's Brad Pitt in Nascar. Turns out their characters are old rivals.

This will be the first film to feature Cruise and Pitt since Interview with a/the Vampire. Cruise previously auditioned for Tarantula's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood but DiCaprio won out, the first time Cruise has failed to win a role since the early 1980s.

Days of Thunder 2 is scheduled to rev into theaters worldwide in the Summer of 2028.

I was surprised that they got the level of access and cooperation that they did, though F1/the FIA will never turn down someone willing to throw endless money at them.

You couldn't wring a realistic story out of the 2023 season (when they filmed most of it) anyways. It'd be 5 minutes long.
>Hey, Apex GP has to win a race in the last 9 races of the season or you're fired.

Part of it is also that because they're real people (and also because this is basically a really expensive ad for F1) they can't really have any conflict or say anything disparaging. There's a moment in one of the races where Sonny is basically just trying to run interference on the leading pack of driver so JP could catch up. He block Max Verstappen for a little while but eventually he gets overtaken and he says something like: "Yea ok, you're good." or something like that. And it feels just a bit out of character. I imagine if all the drivers were fictional there would be more banter and interpersonal conflict. Like in that intro scene at the 24 Hours of Daytona where he's basically ready to get in a fight with another driver. I'm assuming that guy was not an actual professional driver. If he was, hats off to him for being up for doing that.

F1 got bought by a big American company that made a giant push to try and get more normies into racing over the last few years. Netflix tv show etc. I have no idea if race attendance has increased, as far as I can see there's been a giant surge in people who are interested in things that are Formula 1 'adjacent' but dont watch any of the actual races.

i've never seen F1 and couldn't tell you the real difference between F1 and Nascar aside from that one is liked by euros and the other by American rednecks but I felt I could more or less follow along. I only got kind of confused at whatever the plot that Tobias Menzies was trying to pull but I gathered the gist of it was he wanted the team to fail so Benicio would lose the team and he could sell it or something for a profit.

The announcers never shut the fuck up. And while I considered it all exposition, I don’t really watch F1 so I figure that it could be fairly realistic since a lot of normie viewers don’t know how racing works.

Did feel forced still though. “He’s got warm tires so that means he has an advantage! Note the warm tires! Okay now they’re not as warm so he has less advantage so that’s why he’s now being overtaken.”

The daytona bit might’ve been my favorite and it wasn’t even f1.

It's jarring to see Kerry Condon on the big screen the past few years, especially as Pitt's love interest in this. Not that she isn't attractive or talented, but I figured her ceiling after Rome was Mike's daughter on Better Call Saul.

Anyway, I enjoyed it for the most part, but I didn't buy what Pitt's character does at the end. It would have made sense for the character that was introduced at the beginning, but not the one who had gone through what unfolded throughout the film. Close to kino but ultimately unsatisfying. Rush had a much better ending.

Bump

This a good flix i came out the of the theater and enjoyed it better than anything else this year. It is a return to big name star action movie so it was worth it

Weird parts about it is that the script feels like it was written by a game because the movie feel like you are watching Forza Horizon Story Mode Sonny even has a map and circles baha for a race, and the use of the race announcers mixed with the Gran Turismo the movie were mashed together. This is not a bad things but it feel like that is where they took the beats from

The only part I didn't like they use crashes way to much. I think there are 5 high speed crashes and in its basically the next day everyone is fine. It just feels over used

Drive to Survive on Netflix, it's basically The Kardashians with vroom vroom window dressing

If that bald jew fuck Silver wants to fix the cratering ratings then he should also allow for a cheap """reality show""" about the NBA

Lewis Hamilton was great when he was younger but he is far from the best in history. Now he is like an old geezer out there and should probably retire or switch to endurance racing. Also pretty sure he is a mulatto.

Honestly Hamilton is top 3. Schumacher got >exposed with the tire changes for example, whereas Hamilton has gone through several different types of cars and tires, refuelling ban, all that shit and been consistently good until 2 seasons ago. He won races even in seasons where he was given an atrocious car (2009 McLaren). He only lost 2007 due to 2 (((reliability))) issues that happened to help the Ferrari driver win and lost in 2021 due to a deus ex machina decision from an amateur head steward. He won 2008 through luck (Singapore GP fix, Glock moment) but Massa didn't really deserve it either. Realy Hamilton should have 8 or 9 titles

It was so weird how they kept cutting to that blonde pit crew girl acting all flustered whenever she looked at the black guy and then nothing came of it.

>Is it a formulaic sports movie? Yes. Does it execute the formula to perfection? Hell yeah.
At least it isn't another boxing franchise?

Women are incapable of developing an organic interest in something. They just latch on to things that are popular in order to increase their social standing in certain groups. That's why female interests are always varied but NEVER natural.

anon it's a movie
the problem is that actual drivers and races are used where they should have fictionalised those too
there literally is no interaction with the other drivers because they're not actors
