I actually defended him until his Netflix slop
his Rebel Moon movies had so much post-processing it felt like something Rooster Teeth would have made

You have to understand, between dawn of the dead and 300 he made a shitload of money for the studio (and kicked off a decade of people aping his style).
When a studio seesthat they'll start throwing money at them.
I think he is a classic case of someone being a victim of their own success because he never had anyone from the studio standing over his shoulder pushing back on the self indulgent pretentious wankery.
Its a shame he didn't spend more time as a working directors with small budgets and constraints that would have tempered his instincts.

Army of the Dead would have been a lot better if it was directed by James Gunn

Its cute how every pajeet superfan doesn't realize they've worked together in the past. Snyder's breakout movie, dawn of the dead, was written by gunn.

that doesn't necessarioy mean working together though, a script can be written and the movie produced without the writer and director ever talking to each other

The only Zach Snyder movie that I liked was Watchmen and I probably wouldn't like it as much on reviewing.

The closest we have to compare it to is Slither, which is in fact the better movie.
