Having now watched every cut of Blade Runner, I've come to the conclusion the original theatrical cut is the best. As usual, Ridley Scott is incapable of any meaningful creative input and the tighter his grip gets on anything the worse it becomes. Deckard's narration does add to the movie's humanity theme.

Retarded coming from the book? Yes, but Scott the hack managed to progressively remove more of the substance from the book with each new edition so Deckard being or not a replicant is more or less irrelevant by the final cut.

>You've done a man's job, sir
A person of average or higher intelligence realizes that Gaff's line is ironic. Deckard's job is dehumanizing and has left him traumatized and emotionally void. It's the least subtle cherry top on top of the movie's themes, that Deckard has made himself inhuman and now learned humanity again from the Replicants' struggle to live.

A retarded person hears that line and thinks "OH SHOOT what if this means DECKARD is a replicant too???" Ridley Scot is a retarded person.

Anon, you’re not wrong, but I think if Deckard’s a replicant, it really kicks the whole “what is human?” theme into overdrive. Like, if he’s just as artificial as the others, then the movie’s asking us if being human is about memories, emotions, or something else entirely. It’s a mindfuck, and makes the moral ambiguity even darker—are the replicants really the villains, or just victims of a shitty system? Adds a whole new layer of existential dread, you know?

nta you were talking to I used ai to repond to you out of curiousity I didn't even read what it responded with but I will after I hit enter.

Not at all. He's a loser that's seething at Deckard getting the job he wanted. He's butthurt the entire time that he didn't get a promotion and Bryant instead chose to make him go find a retired detective and drive him around. So he makes retarded pointless origami instead of actually fucking helping out. Maybe if he'd actually done his job, Deckard wouldn't have almost died in every replicant encounter

Real niggas realise that Deckard maybe being a replicant doesn't contradict the themes at all, it actually only strengthens them. The replicants are an analogy for humanity's struggle with meaning and mortality, the whole point is that they are the same as the human characters, so blurring that line with Deckard only strengthens that

It's hilarious that everything after has gone with the idea they're all called Blade Runners and that they're special forces ninja assasin terminators. Deckard was the only one with a nickname Blade Runner because of previous stuff he did, and he couldn't fight for shit. He should have died to every replicant but was miraculously saved. Yet he was considered the "best" because his job isn't about fighting, it's being a detective. That's not interesting enough for blockbuster movies though

People often fail to think of a movie director as an architect. He has a vision, secures funding for it, but he’s not the one who’s going to live in it—so compromises happen along the way. You need to have your admin staff, someone to hire the crew, and a whole structure in place. Think of David Chase at the end of The Sopranos—dealing with all the mess while leaving Terry to sharpen his still-fresh tools.

it is meant to make you think about your own humanity. what makes you human?

he just saw what appeared to be a self centered human being turn into no more than a pocket calculator demanding to be used for its designed purpose then run against its own designers, at that point, how can he know what he is, how can one know ?

The idea that replicants all needed to be identical to humans was the idiotic part. Leon and Roy didn't need to look like humans. Give them blue skin and no face or something. Pris and Zora could just have some obvious trait to announce them as replicants.

Play the game and you'll see. Being a detective is solving a mystery. Looking for clues, talking to people that could be innocent/guilty/or mixed, piecing together threads to weave a tapestry and eventually solve the case. It takes time, dedication, and careful consideration. It's not some action packed rambo movie where you just run around yelling then shoot the problem to make it go away. It doesn't make a good popcorn movie, but it's great for stories and atmosphere. Looking into the scanner is not some epic insult like you pretend it is. It's interesting detective work and he finds the big case changing clue through it, which other people couldn't do.

They are literally pieced together from individual parts created by various designers. You can 100% design and tweak them any way to want. They even make replicant animals. It wouldn't be difficult at all for the persob making the skin to make it come out blue instead of white. Or tweak the facial features to be smooth instead of realistic.

That was exactly what it was. In the original cut, Deckard goes to visit his friend Holden in the hospital. They talk about the new replicants and how scary good they are now. They are used to the shitty models of replicants that are easy to spot and basically retarded. They're obviously not humans, barely above animals, and most would not have much empathy for them. It's only the Nexus 6 and Rachel that have improved so far they are almost passing the VK machine. That's what finally breaks Deckard that he empathizes with their plight, stops viewing them as "IT"s and as human instead, and becomes determined to enjoy his own life again after seeing how much they had a true desire to live.
