Because Disney Adults AKA the millennial manchildren generation is one of the most gullible and lucrative markets ever. Dangle a bit of nostalgia in front of a millennial's face and watch how quickly he pulls out his credit card.

I could believe Cats is only a mid-tier performer in New York, it may have invented the modern musical production but it did it primarily in Londond. And Japan, I guess

Yeah fair enough, it's probably just inflation. It's run ended 25 years ago, and it's only had one year long revival since then

For current shows, Hadestown is best overall show. Orville Peck in Cabaret is amazing but show is overall not as good as Hadestown

i wonder what the margins are on something like that. at that kind of gross it hardly matters, but i assume musicals are pretty expensive to run

I dont get broadway productions, what's the point for closing something like phantom that's been running for 30+ years? Just to give some time to hype up interest for the inevitable revival?

phantom was a really expensive one, i think, it might have legitimately just come to the point where the ticket sales didn't quite justify it over trying something else in the space. there are only so many theaters on broadway

1) a lot of performances. 2) itโ€™s accessible. People go to New York, say they want to see a broadway musical even though one or both spouses has never seen a musical before. Lion King? Sure I know that. Letโ€™s see that over the other one that I have never heard of.
