The changes they made have nothing to do with political shit, they didn't remove an LGBT plotline or something like in that streaming mini-series. There's not info still to what was specifically removed but from the original teaser:
Mother was changed into Elio's aunt and they added the "dead parents" trope.
Villain of the movie doesn't seem like a villain from the first teaser (although it is possible he was still the villain, just started out good).

The upcoming Beaver movie was changed to cut back on the Climate Change tones.

They definitely removed some gay stuff from Elio. We’ll find out eventually.
