Does the event horizon feel goopy? Or maybe it feels like putting your tongue on a 9 volt battery. What do you guys think it feels like?

unrealistic show
first of all ignore the fact that there's no such thing as a wormhole device that can transport you to different planets
that doesn't even make sense it's so unrealistic
also the real sticking point is the misrepresentation of the USAF
for instance, Jack O'Neil is too high a rank to go on the missions he does
it would be likely that Jack would never go in the stargate himself but rather command many factions
usually in the USAF, a colonel has many hundreds or thousands of people under their command
not one enlisted and two civilians
it would be more realistic that Jack would be a major and his team would be much larger consisting mainly of a few captains and first and second lieutenants
also it would be unlikely that general Hammond would be present on the base as often as he is and in fact he would more likely be in Washington or operating elsewhere

I recently marathon'd the movie and the first 3 seasons.

I grew up watching the original series every week and I think saw part of the movie on V one afternoon when I was a kid.

It was fun to revisit, as a mid-budget american-canadian TV show from the mid-90s it still holds up.

My one complaint though is that the staff weapons sounded and felt much more powerful in the movie compared to the TV series.

and obviously that every other world on the galaxy happens to speak English and lives in what suspiciously looks always like British Columbia. The English thing bothers me more than anything else because at least Star Trek got away with it with their universal translators. Here we have Space Mayans and other cultures who all just speak English fluently.

The time travel episode was obviously fun but it was unintentionally funny when there's that montage of the van driving across several states like here's Kansas and there's Illinois and Chicago and everything between Colorado and New York - but everytime the van drives by a unique state it's just the same BC mountainside covered in pine trees lol

Yes. He is in both and there are various fan theories connecting the two. In TP he's a major, in SG-1, he's a general.

'Stargate' is part of the Tommy Westphall Universe. You can't expect an eight year old autistic boy to know everything about the military, even if he does have an encyclopedic knowledge of WWII tanks.

They were being lazy (or cheap) in the time travel episode. There are flat areas in the Lower Mainland where they could make it look enough like Kansas to be believable. You've seen these areas in other episodes. They didn't want to take the time and pay to have an extra filming location set up for each part of their trip.
The staff weapon needed to be taken down a notch so humans could plausibly become top dogs. The explanation that the staff weapons were more about instilling fear into the opponent than about being effective works well with them seeming so powerful but ended up being primarily noise makers best used against primitive cultures.

moreso cheap, watching this in HD on a wide screen shows how much of a mid-budget show it was.

There are great practical effects throughout like that james earl jones monster or even how just the basic goa'uld larva aren't CGI slop, but it's clear now how plastic-looking the armor and weapons and a lot of sets are, it looked better in a square-ass 1990s TV

Yes. Same with many of the effects in Babylon 5. They worked fine for the expectations of the time period and because most viewers had a 17" NTSC television.

I believe it is MORALLY VIRTUOUS to only watch classic television in low def.
