This story is much older. Spader was "done" by the time Boston Legal came through, let alone when he starred in Blacklist. Remember, he played the male lead of Soderbergh's SLaV back in 1989 (and had a speaking part in Wall Street two years prior), so he had ample time to become the star he was destined to be due to his sheer talent. Somehow it never happened and the industry accepted it by the mid-2000s. It seems Spader himself too. I can't tell if he was a PITA to work with, developed an allergy to quality scripts or just had terrible luck but the man definitely had much more in his career. He should have embraced the indie scene more, and the same goes for working in European productions every once in a while.
