It was those giant ass 1.5 volt D sized batteries that weighed a ton as well. And you usually needed like 6 of them that lasted maybe 8 hours for the shit to play at half volume.

The only difference is that it took way more effort to be annoying back then. But yeah, some "people" went the extra mile to be annoying even if it meant carrying a huge heavy boombox. It's impressive in a scumbag sort of way.
